I've always been partial to female singers. Especially if I want something relaxing. I honestly can't think of a single slow song with a male on vocals that I really like. Hard fast music I can listen to both but I still prefer females, just not as many to choose from.

If a female can listen to male musicians, why does it matter if males listen to female musicians?

I should come up with the term, Maninist. It's the opposite of feminist

i think that it is normal. i listen to female singers mostly dubstep and electronic. so its not that big a deal. oh can everyone stop using the word natural to make something sound ok natural does not in and of its self mean a good thing.

It's Meninist/Menimist. And it already exists. Well, on Twitter, at least.

You're not allowed to make me look stupid and I don't have a twitter, or ever been on it. I think it's ridiculous.

It's sad that we live in a society where apparently we can only like something if everybody else likes it, otherwise risking ridicule. I listen to whatever I please, regardless of the gender of the singer.

I'm not foul, but I'm not saying I'm not a creature neither.

The opposite of feminist is sexist. If anyone is using a different term, it's because they don't want to look bad.

Well, that was kind of out of the blue. Did anyone suggest this was something they were concerned about? Are you suggesting they should be? *sigh*

As to the original question, while I guess there are some kinds of music that are somewhat generally thought of as music with more appeal to women, or with more appeal to men, I've never thought that the sex of the performing musician had much to do with that.

Don't you like Hallelujah by Jeff Buckley, Wild horses by The rolling stones, All I have to do is dream by the Everly brothers and Bright eyes by Art Garfunkel?!!!! (those are some of my relaxing songs ... my favorite is Terry Wey but I don't think most people, especially men, like that kind of music ...classical choir singers).

Anyways, I don't see why gender should be a problem. As a girl, I enjoy both. However, I just realized that I listen more to male singers....

My all-time female artists: Ingrid Michaelson, Sarah Brightman, Mazzy Star, Kelly Clarkson and Tarja from Nightwish (when she was in the group...I don't like the other female's voice)

Other favorite female singers/groups: One eyed doll, Flyleaf, Tristania, Enya, Tegan & Sara, Metric, Sia, Kate Bush, Anna Nalick, Norah Jones, Alanis Morissette, Bjork, garbage, the cranberries.

Male artists: a lot....it would be like writing an essay...I identify more with male vocals. My top 3 favorite male vocals are Chino Moreno from Deftones, Jordi from San Cisco, and Trent Reznor from Nine Inch Nails.

Better not tell most men of ancient and present civilizations that they're strange for appreciating female artists. You'll hurt their feelings. Then, many of them would probably return the sentiment, but with more... Pain.
