You can dislike a show for whatever reason you want, dude. It's nothing wrong with that.

That being said It seems to me that you don't hate this particular anime just because is whisfulfillment but also because you regard that it promotes, or at least don't criticize, a given wrong behaviour.

It preys on the concept of it or something, Iunno, two losers being kings of the world without having to get over their distorted view of their home world seems iffy to me. I mean, come on, the leads are losers who just happen to be good at video games but not much else.

I haven't seen No Game No Life.

You just gotta avoid the ones you think are just gonna have you whining about them...

Then again...

I believe that is the best response yet.

Isn't everything escapism? Your idea that liking something because it "glamorizes" escaping reality is like saying people shouldn't have hobbies, or interests. Never have any escape. Never.

Yeah....No.

Thing is, humans aspire escapism.

What we lack is the true motivation to overcome the need of it and move on with our real life, anime is partly an incarnation made by our own hands to fulfill that of which we wish, adventure, joy, things we wish was a genuine reality. Magic that can bring back life and joy into the world, where no consequences are made, and that is where we fall short.
We want to believe that what we see is true, what we lost is replaced, what we want is given.

Aww shucks, I went to deep eh?
Long text short, we will always be unsatisfied, it's what we choose to do that makes us hold onto the feeling of fulfillment longer.

Guess you wouldn't like tokyo magitude 8.5 either then, cause while it doesnt exactly promote it. Thats the most escapist anime I have watched.

Honest, while your free to hate anything you want. not liking ngnl because of that reason just seems odd,

Hmm... not really a question with a simple answer.

Trying to keep it relatively short and sweet, yes if there is something "off" about the wish being fulfilled. Suspension of disbelief can be totally shattered when everything keeps going the way of the hero. A series can start of promising but easily degenerate into some bad Mary Sue fanfic-turned-animé. Also if the "wish fulfillment" is something you just can't enjoy to begin with and especially if it is something you find utterly appalling, this too can be a good reason to hate the show. The show, not the people involved (though sometimes its a good reason to be wary around such people).

Wish fulfillment is okay. I personally like NGNL because it had some novel ideas and novel solutions to unexpected problems. It was a fun show to watch because the wish fulfillment was masked by the plot.

On the other hand SAO (everything except Mother's Rosario which was fantastic) was primarily just wish fulfillment. The plot in Aincrad, ALO, and GGO was very weak and pretty much everything revolved around the main character showing off by kicking someone's ass in the same way over and over again.

Hagure Yuusha for example had an OP main character, but he didn't just kick people's asses. He had a rival, he teased his enemies, he teased his friends. There was a lot more to it than just defeat asshole, win girl's heart.

Basically wish fulfillment is great, as long as you play around with it. Not just keep doing the same thing over and over and over again.

I don't think you can control what you love or hate - unless it's out of ignorance.

Yeah....No.

I heard it somewhere before, and it just seems right. I always thought escapism was being a NEET and ignoring the world for virtual reality and so forth, which is in my opinion bad. You can't just drown yourself in an anime like NGNL and ignore the real world goddamit.

I'm far from a NEET and anime, manga, etc are my "escape" from real life, in a healthy way and normal way.

I don't understand the idea of being a NEET, since you're just stagnating yourself, but I don't think anime is doing anything to further that, honestly. I think that's people's own choice.

Well, basically, the plot caters to people aspiring to bypass the rules of the real world, and that to me seems to promote escapism. Regardless of whether or not it actually does, I just wonder if this is a valid reason to hate a show. Of course, our definition of escapism might differ in intensity. I guess it is true that everything is a bit escapist, but it is also true that one could over do it.
