Suppose you were magically able to take possession of all the forgotten pennies:
The splotchy ones in the bottom of purses.
The sticky ones on the floor of cars.
The dented ones on sidewalks and in gutters.
All those buried in the sand or covered by grass.

I'd say lets not count any found in water fountains that become wishes.
And if it's a penny likely to be used again or mixed with other coins then lets not count those either.

So if you had all those forgotten pennies all over North America that no one would notice are missing, how much money do you think you would have?

Pretty good question. Many people throw away pennies. The fact of the matter is that it's still money. A conservative estimate would be 3.5 million dollars. This is assuming that every person in US and Canada dropped one penny.

On the same subject, street cleaners in New York and other large cities find pieces of gold jewelry, diamonds and other precious items on the sides of the streets. Dirty streets are gold mines.

You wouldn't have enough money to hide the shame of it all being in pennies, I'll tell you that much.

If I could get all the pennies; I'd slag 'em down into far more useful dirty plate metal.

I used to suck on pennies as a kid. Dunno why. Liked the coppery taste.

At the rate copper had gone up a while back, if pennies were still made out of copper, they'd be worth more than any other coin.
Watching a penny disintegrate under a brazing torch while able to solder together copper pipe with the same torch is some kind of eye opener or something.

I foreshadowed a bad ending to this thread, the usefulness of pennies are long over due.

Now you just seem cheap if you even bother forking one out to pay.

I'll take a 1943 copper and I'll silence all who say there is shame in having your worth in pennies.
