First and foremost, I would like to warn to not start a debate regarding the old series vs. new series because I'm sick and tired of it, I'm around 18 years old so I'm more into modern anime like Macross F rather than Macross Super Dimension Fortress.

That being said, which show is better?

I ask this because I started rewatching Macross Frontier and I'm still amazed at how the show can put the audience in a trance, to where the audience will want to keep watching and of course, it's best feature, its music that carried the whole anime through and through.

As for Gundam Seed, it was great of course but it lacked the music that Macross Frontier had (Lacus had a few songs but that was it) but it had more "classic" scenes in oppose to MF CIG's fighting scenes.

macross frontier, the music and using its recipe of having pop stars characters really work.
The mech battle are much better and epic

Gundam Seed, was long ago when i watch it
it was pretty good although i dont remember why... but i remember destiny ruined it... until gundam 00

Frontier...by miles!

The epic music during the mecha battles brings so much energy, it is amazing!

Gundam Seed and Seed Destiny are the best. There is both modern elements (although its a 2003/04 anime) but its references to the classic Gundam and mech anime are nice. The soundtrack is about 50/50 there is crap and some great stuff. But I think a cool part is that they make you hate the characters; then over the course of both series you can earn respect for them and change your opinion.

Note: Gundam 00 was great; until the movie ruined the entire series.

Double Note: I am bias towrads Gundam, but Macross is a great series too, but between the given choices, Gundam Seed/Destiny.

Actually this is an odd comparison for me.

Macross Frontier has wonderful music and an interesting plot, but I absolutely despise the characters.

Gundam Seed on the other hand has an average soundtrack and average plot, but the characters are really interesting.

I will go with Gundam Seed overall though, because I honestly don't give two fucks about Alto, Ranka, or Sheryl.

Of these two choices, Macross Frontier, though, like several Macross shows, it is limited by the lack of localization (i.e. the usual Harmony Gold nonsense). And I am like Jing in that I am not a big fan of the characters. They serve a purpose in the latter-day Super Robot Wars games, but that is about it for me.

I am not going to do my usual Gundam Seed rant here, but there are many things I emphatically dislike about that show (and many more that I dislike about its sequel).

I like both. But, I have to say that Macross Frontier is the better show. Part of what drags Gundam Seed down is the beginning of Gundam Seed Destiny. They seem to forget what the actual characters are like at the beginning of Destiny. I do admit that I wish more focus had been put on the more adult characters in Frontier. But, Macross has made it a tradition of centering the story around a love triangle involving pilots and singers.

Just want to say that age has nothing to do what anime you're into (new, old, etc.). It could and does play a factor, though.

Anyway, as for which is better. Hm. Both have their merits and flaws, overall. Since I can't really decide, and I'm a bit biased towards Gundam (not Seed, but in general), I'll pick Macross this time. The singing gets my vote.

Macross Frontier for me. I enjoy the music and story more in Frontier. Though I can see Jing's point about Ranka, Sheryl, and Alto. Though even Frontier isn't my favorite series in the franchise, I still enjoy the series as part of the universe. Macross Plus' love triangle worked better IMO.

Seed was alright, and the characters were great, but I can only hear "I am taking off" oh so many times before I want to punch something. Oddly enough, my favorite Gundam series is Wing, probably because I grew up with it on Cartoon Network back in the day, even though some of the characters can grain on you at times.

I liked both, but Seed Destiny is something I always want to forget even existed. God, after Jesus Yamato revived once again it started to go downhill pretty fast especially with them bring Mwu back like...just because. It really made his sacrifice at the end of SEED feel really cheap and that irritated me.

Macross Plus was purely awesome. The characters were all adults and it just felt refreshing. I really couldn't take the teenage angst and drama between the 3 Frontier kids. Original Macross was kind of bad too, I mean Hikaru was kid(mentally), Minmay was a floosy, and Misa was an adult who fell in love with a kid. Although Original Macross had Max and Roy, and both of their romances were very fun to watch, and well kind of sad in Roy's case.

As for Gundams, my favorite is Gundam 00 if you don't count the movie (the movie was idiotic). Gundam 00 just had awesome characters.

I liked Macross Frontier a lot. Great music, great mecha battles, and ok story! As for Gundam Seed I didn't watch it!

But here's something in Seed's favor! Gundam Seed's trump card!

I think you and I may have talked about it before in another thread (maybe the one on Macross Delta), but yeah I agree with everything you said about Macross. The teenage love drama triangle gets tiresome really quickly IMO. And I agree whole heartedly that Macross Plus was the best of the bunch.

I never watched Gundam 00 all the way through, I guess I should do that at some point.... So pretend the movie never existed, got it.
