Did you know New Mexico is part of the USA?
Posted 12/29/14
First of all, this question mainly pertains to people of the United States. I don't mean to single out anyone, but I know that many people from another country may not know and I don't expect them to know. BUT if you did, kudos to you!

Now I know this question may seem silly to some, but in all seriousness did you know? I don't know how many times I've been told, "Oh I never heard of that country." This is coming from people that were born and raised in the USA themselves! Either they didn't pay attention in history class or honestly had no clue. Who knows haha.

So yeah that's it. If you decide to reply to this post can you please answer honestly?

Yes since I was a young child. But I was thoroughly disturbed a few years ago (when email was not so widely used) to find that some coworkers responsible for sending out product information were using International Shipping to send things to...you guessed it... New Mexico.

Yeah, but some people's ignorance will make you scratch your heads. If you watch Bill Maher's rants on how Americans are stupid you'll see what I mean. Some of the things American citizens don't know about their own country are shocking. I mean, there are people who don't even know who the first president was.

Oh god, If any American doesn't know this then this is a sad excuse for an education system PERIOD!!!

More importantly is HOW New Mexico became an American state. The ugly history of the Imperialistic wars (Mexican American war, Spanish American war, Vietnam, Iraq, etc...) the U.S. fought to create this empire is pretty sad but that's how it is I guess

I thought this was trolling or stupidity at first, and in a sense, I was right. Just not the OP's. I knew it was, but between the state of our educational system and how a certain fair and balanced news agency operates, it wouldn't surprise me to know that not everyone knows this.

Wow. I didn't know that many Americans don't know New Mexico is a state.

How do they not know?!! You live in America. People should know at least 30 of the states and New Mexico should be on that list.

I've never encountered a fellow-American who has revealed that they're unaware of New Mexico's status, aside from very young children. Yes, I totally just outed my two year-old niece. She doesn't know... Yet.

"Wow, you speak very good English."

I hear that fairly often people asked where I'm from.
