This is the location of New Mexico:

It is, as you can see, a landlocked sovereign country surrounded by the United States on its northern, eastern, and western borders and both Texas and Mexico (colloquially referred to by New Mexicans as "Old Mexico") on its southern border. New Mexico is a unitary republic with a bicameral legislature composed of a house of representatives and a state senate, with the position of chief executive and head of state both invested in the office of the governor (currently occupied by Susana Martinez). Its capital city, Santa Fe, is notable for its emphasis on architecture and the arts, with additional economic emphasis on information technology, publishing, tourism and outdoor recreation, and conservation technology. Although English is the predominant language spoken in New Mexico nearly a quarter of citizens speak Spanish, with a small minority (2.9%) speaking Navajo or some other language (3.4%).

It is a common misconception that New Mexico is part of the United States since it was at one point technically admitted to the Union on January 6th of 1912. Much to the embarrassment of the 62nd United States Congress, however, the papers formally admitting New Mexico were written and signed in disappearing ink. The appropriate paperwork was swiftly reconstructed and delivered to New Mexico for consideration, but it was determined by the New Mexican people that the pay and benefits being offered by the US weren't as generous as they'd previously thought, and so New Mexico decided to "keep in touch" instead.

Yeah. It's an FSSR. Russia recently tried to annex it, but the US was all "mama bear mode ENGAGE" and Russia was all "damn it".

Yeah, but just because some (or many) don't know this, I wouldn't bash a whole country (or an individual) because of it. You don't know, they may not know or it may not come to mind instantly that New Mexico is a part of the United States, but they may be well-versed in other areas that you don't know or barely know anything about. Calling someone a dumbass or an imbecile or whatever because they don't know one thing (doesn't matter what it is) is just... I dunno, it irks me. People who aren't familiar with their own culture exist everywhere. Ignorance and stupidity isn't exclusive to Americans alone.

Not saying that anyone is doing this or anything, but it's something to think about. Besides, in the end, does it really matter?

There is a lot of common knowledge(what should be at least) that is unfortunately not taught in our country. We could do with a lot better education system honestly. I guess this is just on the list of things people from here should know, but don't know(to my amusement).

I always know New Mexico is part of the US, I don't know why people are making a big deal out of it. I mean it's not like I'm seeing an uprising in New Mexico demanding that state to separate from the US, this is not 1840's debate today.

First of all, this question mainly pertains to people of the United States. I don't mean to single out anyone, but I know that many people from another country may not know and I don't expect them to know. BUT if you did, kudos to you!

Now I know this question may seem silly to some, but in all seriousness did you know? I don't know how many times I've been told, "Oh I never heard of that country." This is coming from people that were born and raised in the USA themselves! Either they didn't pay attention in history class or honestly had no clue. Who knows haha.

So yeah that's it. If you decide to reply to this post can you please answer honestly?

Where is this continent located?

On a serious note, only a few years ago, I discovered that New Mexico had place named 'Las Vegas'.
