I've read parts of it at least to understand what the hype and criticism was about. Not my thing and the sex scenes were way too overdone and made me giggle a bit.

Romance and erotica novels in general are a poor picture of real sex and relationships.

A friend from the US read some extracts to me over Skype because he thought it would make me embarrassed, it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be because some of the writing is a bit too OTT and it ended up being pretty amusing

Personally I enjoy erotic fiction quite a bit, even though 50 shades of grey was not really for me. Compared to many of the tales, written by amateur authors on free story platforms like noveltrove.com, which for me excel 50 shades, I was really surpised by its popularity.
