I am doing a bit of market research for an idea that I am working on for the future.
The idea is to start an online magazine targeted towards women that focuses on geek culture and celebrities. The magazine would feature interviews, cosplay, the latest fashions/trends, and editorials about being a woman in the geek community. I'm shocked that there isn't already a magazine like this, I was inspired by the controversy surrounding "fake geek girls" and the marginalization of women in the community. It seems that one of the ways to give a face and identity to the community is to create something visual like a magazine.
What are thoughts on this?
What kinds of content would you (including men) like to read about?
What would you like to not be included in this magazine?
Who do you think would be interested in this?
Who would you like to see included in the magazine?

What are thoughts on this? It seems like you're trying to target half a niche market.

What kinds of content would you (including men) like to read about? Probably the same content in non gender specific magazines, not that I read anything shinier than my shoes.

What would you like to not be included in this magazine? I don't want to read lots of "everyone is equal" propaganda.

Who do you think would be interested in this? Who do you think?

Who would you like to see included in the magazine? developers, IDK

To clarify, when I was asking who you think would be interested in this magazine, I was asking for specific examples like, 'women older than 18", "women who go to conventions" , "people who read fashion magazines" things like that.
Thank you.

I think what content you put in the mag and on the cover will decide this.

Ah yes, thank you. The point of this post was to figure out what type of content readers would be interested in, and what market would be the most interested in it.

As for fashion I don't follow trends. I wear what I want. But I mostly wear jeans and an anime shirt or a shirt from my favorite game or old cartoon series (thunder cats shirt for example) And most of my shirts I have to get from the guys section as girls don't have or have limited options from gaming shirts :c. As for content not sure the only magazine I get and read is game informer

Thank you for your input! Would you be interested in fashion that featured anime and video games but was actually made for women? because there are brands that do that.
Also why do you read game informer? are there articles you like or do you like to know about games that are coming out?

I think it would be a cool idea as long as it isn't all about feminism ahah

Audince would probably be from teen girls to young women.

Most gaming magazines are super masculine, it would be nice to see some girly game magazines aha/

I'm assuming this magazine would include anime, comics/manga, video games, and convention related content as well as the cosplay/fashion stuff you already mentioned?

And since this is an online mag, you'd have to think about the other countries that would read this as well.

The magazine would have a feminist slant to it meaning that it would be inclusive to women of color, trans women, disabled women and women of every background, it wouldn't talk down to women as vapid, fashion consuming dolls but as smart, conscientious contributors to geek culture.
It would include everything that you mentioned, anime, comics, video games, conventions, as well as science fiction, books, movies, art, music, and sciences.
At this particular moment we are focusing on English speaking countries, but with any success hopefully we can expand to foreign languages and markets in other countries.
Thank you for your input!

Personally, I'm not too big on the feminist slant. I would just be there for the anime/comics/games that is just more targeted to women in general :)

That's good. Also, for instance, doing features about conventions in different countries would be cool to see. Because (assuming you're American) not everyone would want to see just conventions in America ahah. Would be nice to expand a bit. Not sure how feasable it is, but it's just an idea

What are thoughts on this? Decent
What kinds of content would you (including men) like to read about? Controversial things.
What would you like to not be included in this magazine? Religion, and gender equality (it's all fun to start a small war but end it quickly.)
Who do you think would be interested in this? Small company's agents, Otakus? And maybe even some growing adults.
Who would you like to see included in the magazine? probably someone recognizable I hate to have to look them up.

Note: Nowadays people rarely even read, you should go somewhere towards vlogging not blogging.

What are thoughts on this? I am a bit confused because you called the readers girls, then women. But overall I think it's nice idea even though it has flaws. There are many many many types of geeks. Anime geeks, gamer geeks, Star Trek/Star Wars/Marvel/Comic book geeks, I could go on. It would be hard to fit all that in.

What kinds of content would you (including men) like to read about? I personally like everything you said minus the latest fashion and trends. i don't really care, i wear what i like in style or out. However, if your fashion section featured anime clothing /accessory merch, I would be sold. I would also be interested in seeing a tips column. It would have stuff like tips on cosplaying, tips on how to cope with spoilers, tips on how to not get mad while playing video games and throwing your control at a window, ect..

What would you like to not be included in this magazine? I don't really know how people above me started getting at feminism. But if that's somehow linked to this magazine I wouldn't like it. And other touchy stuff like politics and religion.

Who do you think would be interested in this? Women and girls ages 13-late 20's.

Who would you like to see included in the magazine? Anime voice actors!

I'm a 13 year old girl if that helps.
