Oh a Key thread? Yes best thread ever!
Okay since stark shared the Clannad: After Story scene, I figured I 'd share all the other Key anime sad climax scenes
Little Busters!: Refrain

Kanon 2006 (sorry I could only find the dub version of this scene)

I still have to watch all those animes

I'm just preparing myself for heartache.

Btw, I'm liking Rewrite so far.

Hm, I actually thought about checking that one out myself, seeing how I heard a lot of good things about it. Could you give my a quick overview on your thoughts so far? I hesitated starting it because I wasn't all that into the character designs from what I've seen from screen shots, they just looked a little too young for my personal taste. Also, I am still a little shaky on the setting.

Still have to see Air as well. After not liking Clannad all that much I decided to keep my distance from Key/KyotoAni collaborations for a while and I somehow still haven't got back to that

In the visual novel, though, you pretty much get the impression that Nagisa didn't actually know how she got pregnant. It's arguably the most sexless marriage outside of a 1950's sitcom ever.

Personally, I liked Rewrite quite a bit. It's quite a bit different from Key's other visual novels, mostly because its main writer isn't Jun Maeda. The humor in it is quite a bit different (and, at least in my opinion, funnier), and the plot is quite a bit larger in scope. The character designs are a bit on the young-looking side, but I think that the CGs are usually pretty well done. It's basically a science fantasy story that takes place in a quasi-utopian city. There's magic and fantastical technology and the like. Broadly speaking, the first part of the story is about a group of people in a paranormal investigation club, then it moves into other territory from there.

Air is probably Key's most consistent story; it doesn't have the weird tonal shifts that Clannad and Kanon had. Though I don't think its high points were at the level of Clannad or Kanon either. I do think it had the best anime adaptation, though I know other people favor Clannad. I think the fact that the story is really primarily about a specific couple helps a lot in adapting it to an anime; Clannad got bogged down in adapting a bunch of routes that weren't very pertinent to the main story.

I haven't gotten that far, but it's really enjoyable to read. The MC is pretty hilarious, look at some of these screenshots:

^ He's so right!!!!

The character models are a little young looking, but I actually like them a lot. I personally don't think the opening graphic does the character designs too much justice. They look much better in game.

Also the opening sequence really hooked me. It has a cool monologue thing with the MC that was really deep, then it showed the cool looking town, and then it showed the kickass opening (the opening made me )

So far it seems to be doing alright. I can't imagine the twists and turns this will take. I fucking loved Clannad, especially After Story (my third favorite anime ever) so I expect big things from this one.

I'm sorry you didn't like Clannad But like Creatures said, we have totally different writers in this one so you may like it more. Though, Jun Maeda was still a supervisor and he was in charge of the music. And speaking of the music, it's excellent!

My only gripe is that my don't hear the MC's voice! I'm so used to F/SN where we hear Shirou talk all the time, I want to hear the MC speak, but we only get text when he speaks; there's no voice over.

Ah I see. But you should know you can never prepare yourself for Key anime! Also I dare you to watch them all in a row!

And it seems I'm in the opposite situation you are because I have yet to play/read Rewrite.

Haha that's true. And I'm thinking about doing that Which order would you recommend viewing them in?

And lol it seems your right! I will say, the only thing that bugs me about Key character designs are the fucking eyes. Too damn big (Little Busters anime and Angel Beats and soon to be Charlotte being the only exceptions).

Hm, exactly that alternate future fantasy setting lead me to the rather sceptical outlook I have on it today. Don't get me wrong, I like it whenever they try to do something new, but my experience with mystery/fantasy VN's has been mixed at best.

As I said, I will get around to it eventually It's just that I have so many things on my to watch list still, that I just haven't watched it yet, primarily because my focus has been shifted in recent years. For my problems with Clannad: That is honestly too big of an issue to get into right here, for the moment let's say that I definitely agree with what you stated here.

First, thanks for the screenies Second, the art still seems like it's not exactly my style but I think I could get into it with time. While I am still not entirely convinced, what you two said definitely intrigued me. I'll be checking it out in due time.

I am actually completely okay with the Clannad Visual Novel, it is good for what it is. My problems with the Anime, as well as After Story which is the one I actually dislike, while I see Clannad as just being mediocre, are mostly things not present in the Visual Novel or easily avoidable in the Visual Novel. Although I am still not 100% through Clannad, there are still a few things I am missing. Gotta get on that, been a few years already.

Well, I am coming straight from hollow ataraxia, which had no voice-over to speak of, so I'll be fine with that I honestly don't mind that at all since an unfitting voice can easily take you out of the Visual Novel, seeing how you have to deal with the main character literally all the time. Still, no voice-over at all can get quite boring at times *cough* Tsukihime *cough*.

Minor spoilers, but you actually do get to hear the MC fully voiced for all his lines in the final route.

As for my thoughts on Rewrite, having reading Little Busters!, Clannad, and Rewrite, Rewrite is my personal favourite KEY work of those three.

I personally enjoyed Rewrite quite a bit. Its my personal favourite Key work, and ...its definitely different in tone than other Key works. Its on a bigger scale. It actually reminds me quite a bit of Fate Stay Night, in that while it involves this flashy conflict, the conflict itself reflects on the characters and in particular what it says about the MC (although this is mainly only comes together in the final route).

Its not Umineko/Muvluv, but I personally put it up there.

I think this picture best describes the Rewrite experience :

That's great to hear for both things!

And I cannot wait to actually start a route (i'm trying to start Kotori's first), the common routes in all VNs are a little slowish and boring, but necessary to set up the world. At least the MC is pretty witty and hilarious so I enjoy reading his thoughts.

Read the Clannad, Rewrite, and Little Busters! Visual Novels and watched all of the Key Anime Adaptations. The only thing i disliked was Air... I don't know what it was but something about it put me off.

Oh, they certainly did it well enough. My main problem was that there was too damn much of it. Though, to be fair, the visual novel had the exact same problem. There's, like, 8 or 9 routes that you have to play through to get to After Story, and only about half of them were all that interesting, at least in my opinion.

That image...so perfectly summarizes how I felt about Rewrite. I've said this to people before, but it's literally almost unspoilable without summarizing the entire story, since knowing where it ends up is completely meaningless without knowing how it got there.

It's my favorite of Key's visual novels, as well. Outside of possibly Clannad, it has the most fully fleshed out main character. And I really actually liked the ultimate message of the story at the end.
