The scenes with Yoshino in the common route were hilarious.

Aw hell yeah, a KEY thread *cracks knuckles*

Rewrite is okay but I have quite a few problems with it. Possible spoilers and definite rambling ahead so I'll hide it:
In the end, I think Rewrite really needs an anime to trim the 'fat' from it and it would be excellent. I hope an anime is forthcoming, I'd like to see the story from a different, more focused angle.

Anyway, Little Busters! is my favourite KEY story, as well as one of my favourite stories in general. I didn't think anything could top Clannad but boy did it. Just as a whole package, comedy, drama, romance I find it the best. I like Clannad's atmosphere the most though, probably helped by the music.

Kanon is alright but having read it after Clannad, it seemed a bit half-baked. I think KEY really grew into their own when they made Clannad. Kanon feels like a normal porn VN just with a bit more emotional weight. I'm glad they dropped the H-scenes going forward.

Air is the one hole in my KEY experiences. I didn't like what I saw of the anime at all and I haven't been able to get the VN working but I want to give it another chance one day.

As I stated before, I personally liked Rewrite better, though I think it's just that I like Romeo Tanaka's style of writing, so his work on the common route, Kotori, Akane and the ending routes overshadowed the weaknesses of Chihaya/Shizuru (I didn't hate them, though they were weaker) and the generally unrelated Lucia route (I liked Lucia probably the most, but it isn't really that connected to the story).

Little Busters! is really good, even though it also suffers from the "some of these routes were clearly written by different people" syndrome. The ending more than makes up for it, though.

I read Kanon a bit after the anime came out. At the time, I hadn't seen a VN before, and it was really before visual novels were really prominently shown in anime, so had no idea what to expect. If you compare it to stuff that came out at the time, it really is quite revolutionary. There's a reason why it's held in such high regard. It is extremely dated at this point, though; most everything it did, other people did better later on (or even the same people, in the case of Clannad). It's still a sentimental favorite of mine, though.

Air has an incredibly weak first act, and the primary female love interest is kinda annoying. The latter parts are quite good, though, and you can really tell that Jun Maeda had something to say about single parents (a topic he would also cover extensively in Clannad).

Clannad is actually my least favorite Key work, overall. Some individual parts are exceptionally good, but there's also so much filler I didn't care for, personally. Actually, I take that back; Tomoyo After - It's a Wonderful Life is my least favorite. I liked it at first (its good to know that, in some universe, Tomoya actually had a sex life), but...those endings....

Ooh someone who prefers Little Busters! over Clannad. I have feeling you and I are gonna be good friends. I liked all of the other KEY works as well but Little Busters! is always on top. And it's also one of my favorite stories in general as well. I really liked how it gave the guys in the group focus and development. Among a bunch of other things which would take too long to name but that's the main reason.

I liked the common route as well. I liked that it was different from LB in that the main group really aren't friends at all instead of super tight best friends. I also enjoy the main conflict between what is basically extroverts (Guardian) and introverts (Gaia). But I don't feel like enough was made of it outside of Akane's route. Or if it was, it was lost in writing full of fluff and unwieldy sentences.

I agree that Chihaya and Shizuru's routes were the weakest, even though those two are my favourite characters. Chihaya's seemed to be just a way to exposit why Sakuya is important and Shizuru's is to explain Guardian since Lucia's doesn't bother with that. In that sense, I suppose they do feed into Moon/Terra or the other heroine routes but I dunno, they were bogged down by the conflict with the fire guy and the end of the world respectively. Akane's route was good but too long. That's just a personal thing though, I don't like it when VNs/anime/manga/games are longer than they should be. There was too much of Koutarou wandering around the ruined city saving people. Too much of Koutarou without Akane. The common route and true ends are where you explore the protags for me, the heroine routes are for the heroines obviously.

I feel like Rewrite emphasises the overarching plot more than the characters whereas LB is about the characters and the plot only comes in in Refrain. It's a personal preference but I like the character focus over the plot focus. I also like LB's characters more than Rewrite's regardless of quality of writing or whatever.

I haven't really had the chance to compile my thoughts on Rewrite like this before and it has also been a while since I finished it, I'm thinking about it again for the first time in months. Forgive me for any inconsistencies.

I forgot Tomoyo After even existed. I kind of don't think it counts which is unfair but I don't intend to play it. I didn't care for Tomoyo that much so I'm not interested in playing a side story about her. Same with Kud Wafter.

Ah, a comrade! Yeah, I was shocked that they bothered to make me care about Kengo and Masato. I mean, Kyousuke was kind of given time throughout but the other two just weren't around at all other than doing the goofy KEY best friend thing. I like the guys more than all of the heroines except Mio (who is my favourite heroine in anything) and that rarely happens to me with stuff like this.

As a side note, the scenario writer/primary scripter of Rewrite, Romeo Tanaka, also wrote a series of light novels called "Humanity Has Declined", which was made into an anime series a couple years back. If you like the humor in Rewrite, its pretty similarly outre, and is actually one of the better satires of Japanese pop culture/otaku culture I've seen in recent memory.

Not really related to Key, so to speak, but figured it was worth mentioning.

So those who have played Rewrite, I'm curious:

How many of you actually unlocked everything and got the Oppai Route yourself or just watched it on YT?

Tah Ha! Fucking Kotarou is hilarious

I love it when he dubs her thoughts

I've been procrastinating hard getting through this, but I decided to read a little bit more today. Common routes tend to take me some time to get through. I like them and everything, but it's easy for to just put it off and go through it slowly. I did the same thing during the first half of the Fate route in F/SN. I think that took me like two-three months to get through lol! But I should be able to get through this common route much faster than that. F/SN was my first official VN (if you don't include Katawa Shoujo) so I wasn't too used to the format.

But once I reach a point in Rewrite that gets me really excited then I'll play it nonstop. Just common routes always take me forever to get through.

Da fuck!?

Ok, so Kotarou just used his power for the first time to push that kid out of the way..........................

I was not expecting that at all! Looks like there's more than meets the eye with this boy! He didn't even mention that he had that power, he's a sneaking one!

EDIT: Ok Rewrite, you got my attention now! That scene with the dog was pretty creepy and then the scene back at home was just weird! Though I loved how he was still trying to keep a sense of humor when he was locked in his room even though he knew he was screwed and then he saw all the footprints and just fainted That whole bedroom scene had a good mix of creepiness and humor, I'm impressed!

I looked up a guide and unlocked the Oppai route

I don't even know what you're talking about yet, but call me curious Pff, when I play, I play for completion, I sort of assumed that there was gonna be a sixth route and I'm pretty sure that I will be able to unlock it eventually, so far I am being very thorough.
I have been able to finish Kotori, Chihaya and Lucia so far. Liked Kotori's route, sort of mixed about both Chihaya and Lucia. Will get back with detailed thoughts once I am through all of it. Haven't really been playing lately, mainly because I have started Shizuru's route now and the lead in to her route is kind of slow, plus I am pretty burned out after finishing the first three routes in about ten days.

I actually love the common route in Rewrite a lot, one of my personal favourites What day are you on?
Well, I am pretty you'll be excited once you go into either Kotori's or Chihaya's route, since the final lead into that just consists of massive amounts of hype. Not so much with Lucia's route, that has a far slower build up to it, so you'd probably want to skip that for the time being.

I believe I'm on Day 7, the day right after the dog and ghost footprint encounter. I also just ran into Lucia (I think i'm going to like her).

And I'm shooting for Kotori's first. I'm following an order on what peeps here have told me to do. I believe the order is:

Kotori > Chihaya > Lucia > Shizuru > Akane

I cannot wait to start Chihaya's route because she's my favorite girl thus far (I also love her voice).

I also really like this common route too, but it still takes me a while.... Though after the dog encounter I'm really motivated to play some more. I'm playing some this morning before going to class

Seems reasonable. I did Lucia first and it made for a good experience in terms of narrative progress and the way the plot unraveled, even though the route itself had many flaws in my eyes, but you certainly can't go wrong with doing Kotori first.

I like her a lot as well, I find her to be a lot more charming than the other girls, she just has a lot of fun quirks to get attached to. Then again, I still have to play Akane's route, who could easily become my favourite along the way. My favourite voice is Kotori though and by quite a large amount, her voice actress is just amazing. She is voiced by Chiwa Saitou by the way, who also did Senjougahara for Monogatari and Homura from Madoka among many other roles (Kuro from Fate/kaleid for example), she is definitely among my favourite voice actresses
