How hard would it be for us to collectively create an anime?

You know, instead of an erotic visual novel, why don't we just adapt Katawa Shoujo into an anime/hentai? I kind of want to see more of Emi Ibaraziki. Her cute little stumps flying in the air as she's crawling away from her dear old and lustful onii chan, as she tears up at the thought of her older brother violating her sweet and sexy body...

Seems legit. i approve.

I think people are looking at this all wrong, if you want the community to make an anime than the community needs to decide. Why not open contests for each section we need? We can have a plot summary contest, followed by character design contests, etc. We could break it down as far as we need this way even starting by voting what genre.

It would take some time but it takes time to create any anime so I think that's something we should be prepared for.

Additionally I think it would build the crunchy roll community and raise a lot of attention were it to be completed which would only help further the community and anime world.

That's not a bad idea but I think if we are to use that method we should use it more as a audition process. Maybe for writing it would work exactly as you said, but imagine animation say 10 people put countless hours into a bit of animation they all did the same animation and only 1 of the 10 get to be used. That's wasting a lot of time if each of the 10 worked on a different section it could be finished a lot faster without throwing away perfectly good animation (That is assuming all 10 are competent animators) Witch is why I think we should find all the good ones and bring them on. Of course the community can still decide a lot of things. I just think its to time consuming to have a voting round for everything that goes on.

I would totally back this. I'd love to be involved in the art side of things, maybe even animate a few parts.

This could be an amazing thing, I'm sure we could pull it off with enough organising, time and dedication.

Like someone suggested, it might be best to do different teams for different ideas unless everyone actually agrees on one/similar ideas

No, I totally agree. That was what I was trying to suggest, I just phrased it poorly. I think it's the perfect way to manage it.

No, but seriously, we can probably handle a Katawa Shoujo OVA.

Why not all of them?

We could have the typical MC with a harem consisting of all the female archetypes and one of those females could have a reverse harem filled with male archetypes. All of them some combination of ninjas, swordsmen, mech pilots, spirits, aliens, robots, mages, magical girls and maids. All revolving around a barely fleshed out plot about the MC being the best at something and/or collecting something while saving the world from an evil scientist/general/king/housewife that's using demons and aliens to invade this dimension. Wrap it up with an abrupt ending that answers little to nothing and call it a day.

Is this to say you weren't serious about the erotic novel idea?

Well, we could probably do webisodes or something, but I've seen plenty of indie content on Steam, so I assume it would be easier than a internet series. Of course, with series like RWBY and Red vs Blue becoming popular, I don't see why we can't attempt something like that.

I am completely serious about the erotic novel thing. Basically, you have to

-Draw character sketches
-Create background scenes
-Draw erotic scenes
-Draw up a storyline where each girl has a traumatic past or problem she can't overcome without the protagonist's help, each self contained.

Wala, you just made a visual novel. It may seem generic, but a lot of visual novels take this form and have been greatly successful, from Fate/Stay Night to Ever17 to Clannad. One of the things I be careful of is drawing characters or scenes similar to already existing content.

i would totally throw money at this if creators are found and want to do this! i would love to personally help but i have no background in writing/animating/soundtrack etc

I love to help with ideas!

will it be something small like a pixar short or a continuing story short episodes?

i think it would be cool if this 'fanime' should somehow relate to Crunchyroll. Doesn't Crunchryolll have that anime girl mascot? Hime-sama? (idk) it could be about her saving the world or something...

people can pitch ideas- somebody (leader) reviews all of them and then narrows it down to a couple and it can be voted upon.

I had this thought yesterday. Seeing as we're all obviously fans of anime, we already know what needs to be involved.

Money, first and foremost, Writers, story boarders, artists, effects studio, CG artists, soundtrack musicians, voice actors, and a publisher to release it.
Among other stuff...

But let's say, Guy one writes, guy A draws, guy b animates, girl A does CG, and guy C and D do the soundtrack. Eventually, we get more guys and girls to keep the project moving. We have all guys A-Z doing their part, and girls A-Z doing their part too. It's a group effort.

It may take years, but eventually, we could complete it.

It seems like a complicated process, because in a lot of ways it is, but with enough manpower and talent, could we, the Crunchyroll community, do it?

As much as I despise the website, 4chan did somehow create a visual novel, Katawa Shoujo, one that I've played and actually really liked. 4chan did it, albeit with some help, but what I'm asking is this...

If we actually really tried, could the Crunchyroll community create an anime?

We could call it fanime, or an anime made by fans, but I personally think with enough manpower, and talent, we could pull it off.

Just saying.

i'm up for this! i have good writing skills and i can also animate

It would definitely not be a bad way to manage it I think it would work pretty well.

As funny as that would be I think we should probably have a decent plot at least, and if this is to go through I think it would be best if it was a actually a good anime. Not saying that could not be made a good anime but it would probably be best to not try that particular combination of genres at least.

As awesome as creating an anime would be, is there anyone with actual animation experience that could tell us how feasible this is? And if it isn't I'm totally up for the VN which would be much easier than a full anime... besides, MC's pick isn't always best girl - not saying any names but wtf Ichijo!? Onodera > Chitoge :(

Ahh I'm pretty hyped for this, please lets make this happen! :D

EDIT:

Group function! Thank CR for groups! xD

I remember when I was active on GMC (GameMaker Community) they had a go at making a community game, as far as I know the game didn't work out but it was awesome for the community - started off really well but gradually lost traction :/ GMC made a full forum section for the game, it was awesome! Just as a thought, I know there probably isn't much that CR can do for this but if we're serious might it possible to get our own forum for the project? It would make managing the project a whole lot easier and it wouldn't spam the main boards.

Once the project actually gets a team I think it would probably best just to use CR group functions.

There's always the cheaper route AiYumega.

Stick figure animations, with Japanese voices.
Bam.
