A place with no crime, a place where you could live your life without worries and see smiles on everyone's faces. Do you guys think its just a fantasy or would it be possible for people to live with one-another peacefully and happily?

My first semester of college I took a class entirely based on Utopia.

It's not possible, as you'll never feel like it's Utopic. Gulliver's Travels, where he travels to the land of horses, and returns home. He hates it at home, he can't stand the sight of humans or being around them.

Sure, we could create a place with no crime, war, violence, but we can't change the human nature in us to never feel completely satisfied.

From Brave New World--

""We don't," said the Controller. "We prefer to do things comfortably."

"But I don't want comfort. I want God, I want poetry, I want real danger, I want freedom, I want goodness. I want sin."

"In fact," said Mustapha Mond, "you're claiming the right to be unhappy."

"All right then," said the Savage defiantly, "I'm claiming the right to be unhappy."

"Not to mention the right to grow old and ugly and impotent; the right to have syphilis and cancer; the right to have too little to eat; the right

to be lousy; the right to live in constant apprehension of what may happen to-morrow; the right to catch typhoid; the right to be tortured by

unspeakable pains of every kind." There was a long silence.

"I claim them all," said the Savage at last.

Its possible in fiction! In reality, not in this lifetime. One person's utopia is anothers dystopia, also.

Nope, human nature prevents the creation of a utopia.

It is not impossible but improbable, first you would need to eliminate individual culture, then create a universally accepted culture. So yes it is possible but it would probably take many millennium and many major events that would unite humanity. I don't see it happening though, it is very hard to picture from what we currently live in.

Thanks to human nature, it's not possible. The closest we've ever come to an actual utopian society was with Marxism which would lead to Socialism and finally, true idealized Communism. What we got from that was Maoism and Stalinism. Greed and a lust for power will always cause the downfall of any potential utopian society. That's just a fact of life unfortunately and it sucks.

only in our imaginations.

- class differences in capitalism won't allow for that. however capitalism is the best model for society at the moment as it allows innovation, technological advances etc.
- primitive instincts. animals are territorial. we are animals who wear clothes. animals are greedy. animals think about their own survival first and foremost.
- religion. extremists won't allow for peaceful interactions. they want other people to live and think like them. while not realising they are the most stupid animals on the planet.

It is possible. We simply have to evolve ourselves into something inhuman.

Even then, if just one person gets power hungry and starts trying to take over. The whole thing will fall apart. Unfortunately too many people prefer not to help others and look only to make themselves better off, even at the expense of others.
