IX by a fairly long way, although I think that VI is the 'best' overall. IX is just full of childhood nostalgia for me, I love it a whole hell of a lot.

can't really say what I prefer the most. FF7 had a pretty great storyline for it's time but the graphics are awful. FF8 was really emotional and had some very interesting ideas in it, however it's magic system was terrible. FF10 had some of the best music in it, however the game itself wasn't that great and started the linearity of Final Fantasy. FF13 had the best graphics thus far of any Final Fantasy, had a quite good storyline and linked the characters together better than almost any FF ever. Wasn't fond of FF9, nothing really good or bad to say about it just didn't like it. FFT was really good but I kind of sucked at it(never been Deep Dungeon).

FFVII doesn't hold up for me. It just doesn't have that connection with me anymore, or at least a connection strong enough to overlook its outdated-ness.

It's really a tie, the first FF game I think of when someone says FF is FFVIII which I love. However when I think about it, there's something about FFIX that just makes me love it so much also. I'm often inclined to say FFIX just because of my inner hipster since everyone's always praising FFVIII (when they're not praising FFVII). Well actually critics scored FFIX higher and I think it may have the top average critic score on Metacritic for a FF game.

But really it's the fan opinion that matters more but I'll just give FFIX the upperhand by a puny margin.

Final Fantasy XII. If we're including spin-offs then Dissidia 012 as well.

My most favorite FF games are the ones set in Ivalice.

I never played VII as a kid and I still haven't, but it does seem to be pretty well layed out in terms of story and such. I think my favorite would either be VI or IV though, just because of the types of stories they are. IV feels like a really grand quest that has you running across a continent for and VI feels like a revolution brimming at the seems. They both really hit the right chords for me.

I completely agree with you on this.

And I do have to add that I really dig Tactics.

Have to say that Final Fantasy VI is my favorite one in the series. Haven't played much of anyone above that but have to love that Kefka laugh and that false ending that almost got me.

FF 12 and the tactics series, I feel like I missed out on 7 since I lost it when I was a kid.

Final Fantasy VII by far. I was just 13 when it came out, and it invokes the near height of nostalgia when I think back to all of my favorite games when I was a kid.

Final Fantasy Tactics would be second, and FFIX is a close 3rd. FFX was decent, but after that FF games started to feel cliche and unoriginal, just like nearly every other JRPG.
