This is to both gage what people like these days for pro wrestling viewing and to give a little info on what's out there now.

To explain each style briefly along with example:

North American Sports Entertainment:
The emphasis on this style mixes in ring action, sometimes in a more sequenced style, that leans more to entertainment value and pageantry. This is done with the aid of big entrances, longer promo segments, a more grounded grappling style in ring with exaggerated mannerisms.

Examples include: WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment), TNA Wrestling (Total Non-Stop Action) and to some extends some independent federations who might lean less on the pageantry such as ROH (Ring of Honor), SHIMMER Women's Wrestling and CHIKARA Wrestling.

Also for the WWE in particular, check out the Crunchyroll group at http://www.crunchyroll.com/group/WWE for forum discussions/polls, wall talks, behind the scenes news updates and event/roster postings.

Japanese Puroresu:
While having elements of the other styles can have their own specialities like Strong Style (stiff striking and grappling so it looks more like Mixed Martial Arts) and tends to lean more to in ring action and longer matches for telling the stories.

Examples include: NJPW (New Japan Pro Wrestling), AJPW (All Japan Pro Wrestling), DDT Wrestling, Wrestle-One and Dragon Gate.

Also for NJPW in particular, check out Crunchyroll group at http://www.crunchyroll.com/group/New_Japan_Pro_Wrestling for forum discussions/polls, wall talks, behind the scenes news updates and event/roster postings.

Mexican Luchadore
A style that is more high flying action by all sorts of sized wrestlers including minis. Tends to have multiple pinfalls to a win for matches.

Examples include: Lucha Underground, AAA Wrestling, and CMLL Wrestling.

Do add more to the poll discussion too including any other pro wrestling styles or federations you follow!

Also here's the neat Fanart Friday with the pro wrestling theme to enjoy as well!

When I was Younger, up to about age 16, I had WCW, NWO, WWF Posters put up ALLLLLLLLL over My Room. Literally, even on the Ceiling. As SOON as it changed to WWE, I don't know if it's coincidence or what, but I never watched it again...Not ONE time since it changed Names and Channels and such.

Ahhh, Farewell to My Youthful things...I really liked Rey Mysterio Jr...I can remember WAY back in the Match where if He lost He was forced to remove His Mask for the very FIRST time. Man, I'm old...

Yes it would. Even if today now with the better knowledge on health, injuries particularly concussions (hence why the headshots with chairs has gone away), there are still times that hardcore matches occur and work. To add, North American wrestling tends to have the most stipulation matches too to again play up the added emphasis on the look of matches.

Yep Rey right now is in a bit of a contract bind with the WWE but he's looking to get out of it and go for one more run with a company like Lucha Underground or go back home to Mexico with AAA. A guy who does his entrance now (the one he jumps from underneath the ramp) is Kota Ibushi in NJPW and he's got amazing talent like Rey too. And now worries I'm quite old too heh. It's still good to recall and find new things that remind us why we love pro wrestling and other interests!

I used to watch WWE religiously when I was younger, but it got boring and predictable so I stopped.

I don't know if it's always been like this or my perception of it has just changed, but whenever my brother puts WWE on it's always just so melodramatic, and about 60% of the show isn't even wrestling. It's basically just a drama. Now I can really see why it's called a soap opera for men.

I'm sure the other forms of wrestling are much less... questionable. Don't get me wrong, I used to love it, but now... As a writer I guess I just don't like terrible stories.
