Does anime ever awaken nostalgic feelings that you'd rather not remember? If so, is it a specific anime? Or is there a specific theme in an anime that conjures such feelings? Or is there something I've missed entirely?

For me, it's any anime in which the protagonist is paired with (relationship disregarded) a blonde-haired beauty. For me, it always conjures painful memories and regrets of a girl I once dated.

Anime like Toradora or Noucome really got me. I guess any high school romantic anime just reminds me of how I messed up in high school relationship wise.

Mitsuki from Rumbling Hearts pisses me off and reminds me of my ex-girlfriend...that was an interesting anime to watch.

Hmm....

....for some reason, YuruYuri triggered flashbacks last night. I was treated like sh!t at school, but my experiences totally have nothing to do with the subject matter of the show. It could just have to do with how it's a school setting and how it seems so upbeat and happy, which is something I never had. Or, maybe also, imagining how what we see in the show would apply in real-life.....imagining my persecutors' responses to such things.

Just as well that I finished season 1. I think I'm gonna take a break from it and watch BTOOOM!. Never seen that one before....should be interesting.

Honestly, one thing that really hits home for me are shows featuring a cast of elementary school-aged children. It just makes me feel so nostalgic about my own childhood and all of the stupid crap I did with my friends everyday without a care in the world, being completely oblivious to what the world is really like aside from the things I learned in school and what my parents would tell me, and only caring about having fun playing with my friends.

That type of stuff just really gets me surprisingly.

Either that or a protagonist that is a delinquent in school not really by choice but circumstances and/or consequences...Which was pretty much me in middle-high school, got into tons of fights in school because I had a very short fuse back then. Before I knew it I ended up in the 'trouble-making delinquents'-crowd and was avoided by a lot of my peers.

Toradora in particular.
I became a fan of it partly because of how much the story reminded me alot of my senior year in high school considering I was in a similar situation as Ryuuji.
Didn't have all the craziness and happy ending that the show had but it was enough to make me look back on that time for sure.

I never really thought of it that way, but it makes a lot of sense. When you watch something and it is so profoundly different than your own experiences, it really makes you think. There's definitely a couple animes I've watched that have caused similar feelings for me. Clannad After Story is sorta like that in the post high-school living together situation, even considering Nagisa's illness -- the gravity of emotions conveyed is almost incomprehensible for me. Off topic, was YuruYuri good? It was next on my list to watch after I'm finished with The Pet Girl of Sakarusou.

Same, I wish I could go back in time and beat up my high-school self. That guy didn't even know what he could've had. . .

I would do that but, then what I have going on now may not even happen, so I just leave it in the past, but man these shows just make me feel like I missed out.
