I haven't seen the anime for Tiger & Bunny, but I read several volumes of the manga, & I think my Yaoi Goggles are broke, because I wasn't getting any bromance vibes from it at all. Also, the scanlators abandoned the manga, so I can't finish it. Of course, it could be like GetBackers, where the bromance is played up to 11 in the anime compared to the manga. I guess I need someone who's both seen & read it to tell me.

The rest I will bookmark for watching. ^_^ I've had several people recommend 07 Ghost on different forums, so that one's a priority.

I didn't see your first post until now, you're looking for bromance anime?

Have you watched Terra E (or Toward the Terra)? I think that anime has a lot of bromance or slash...I'm not a fan of slash because it is frustrating for me^^ but I did love that anime and I highly recommend it! this video is a great example of what the anime is about--> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Xx_Yt7o6f4

if I can remember another one (I'm at work right now so I don't have much time haha) I'll edit this post later.

Hmmm fanservice BL?

I recommend good sports anime.
Kuroko no Basuke, Haikyuu, Yowamushi Pedal. Big Wind Up, TeniPri

Owari no Seraph *(manga currently---anime Spring 2015)
UtaPrince, Horimiya (manga), Kiss Him not Me, Megane-bu

And lots others but I don't know what genres you like.

Thanks for recommending "Kiss Him, Not Me," it's really quite funny ^_____^

That Seraph manga also seems promising. I'll bookmark it.

I'm not terribly picky about genre, but I'm hoping to avoid boy-girl romance completely. What I'm really looking for right now is either something that has a minimum of 4 male lead characters with lots of friend-angst & bromance & none of them are interested in a particular girl, or the series where the hero has a plethora of friends & allies who seem a little too interested in him.

Examples of female character not spoiling the BL fanservice:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Free (Sports / Slice of Life) = None of the shipable guys EVER hit on Gou, Only two minor characters are interested in her.

Hunter x Hunter (Shounen / Fighting) = All female characters are minor characters. Killua sabotages the only hetero date in the entire series.

Everyday Lives of School Boys (School / Slice of Life) = All of the women are bullies, so the boys are terrified of them.

Cute High Earth Defense Club Love (Magical Girls / Comedy) = Total sausagefest. Not a woman to be seen.

GetBackers (Shounen / Fighter) = Author sinks all possible hetero pairings in the last arc. Anime cuts out most of the ecchi & amps up the BL fanservice to 11.

Gensoumaden Saiyuki (Jousei / Historical) = Gojyo brags about all the girlfriends he totally had before he was stuck with these guys, but has romantic tension with Hakkai & different degrees of sexual tension with Sanzo & Goku. Sanzo is a magnet for gay, even his enemies are like "notice me, senpai!" & "ditch these losers for a real man!"

Gintama (Shounen / Action / Comedy) = It's pretty obvious that there will be no hook-ups in this "no kissing no hugging" series, unless Otae married Kondou. Sometimes the author ship-teases gay pairs (usually guys who can't stand eachother) for pure shits & giggles. I'll still take it.

Black Butler: There are no important (genetically) female characters (that live). The hero was engaged to his first cousin from childhood & his feelings toward her are platonic. She's also incredibly annoying & got reduced to a background character who only appears casually in the manga. He's also a magnet for perverts & is sometimes forced to crossdress

I also recommend 07-Ghost like the other users. A great story/plot/characters/angst/friendship
The relationship between the protagonist and his best friend is so heart-wrenching and beautiful.
And Hakkenden too. Lots of dudes, cute friendship angst.
Kimi to Boku (5 Dudes/slice of life)
Uraboku (Betrayal Knows my Name)--Angst, Friendship kinda like Hakkenden

If you enjoy manga, I love lots of dudes in a slice of life so I recommend
Seishun Kouryakuhon
Haru Matsu Bokura
Nijiro Days

And you are so welcome on the reccomendations:) I personally love Kiss Him, Not me and Owari no Seraph. Do not be fooled by the summary. The series is quite fanservice-y.

I own the original Toward the Terra (Or rather I bought it on VHS ages ago, forgot about it, & really need to get around to watching it). I couldn't bring myself to watch the remake because it strays too far from the manga art style, which Parasyte is also guilty of....I'm a big fan of both mangaka's art.

Lets get this staight i like BL but im more into Yaoi . yaoi has its own category if u were a true Fujoshi as alot claim to be u would know the difference between the two.just sayin as a friendly advice since I see most don't know on here .anyway and I dont really care but im not a person that will bring it up lightly if I see someone talking about it or reading something then yeah I'm in ill make the move.mostly I wanna keep it as my pleasure, im gonna have a date with me my computer and my yaoi. With no interruptions.lol online though its super easy to find people that have the same interest in yaoi,Shounen-ai,BL,doushinji, bara etc. Offline not so much luckily I got some rad friends that like anime some and at least know what yaoi, hentai, shoujo, etc. Mean and often touch on certain subjects that get them curious for checking it out . and sparks some convo.

I don't have any interest in it personally, but I've seen people mention this is various other places, so I wanted to ask: what exactly is BL? Is it simply yaoi? Homosexual adult men getting it on?

I ask largely because pedophiles attracted to boys call the attraction boy-love. I didn't know if there was a link there, like if BL was shota or something. Forgive my lack of knowledge on the genre, and hopefully it won't offend anyone.

Essentially, BL or boys love is basically a toned down version of yaoi. More focused on the romance/"fluffy" aspects of budding male/male relationships. Shounen ai almost.
People consider Yaoi the more intense/hardcore version of BL or Shounen ai.

BL is not exactly Shota. Shota is a sub-genre of Yaoi. Kind of like how Romance is a sub genre of Shoujo.
There is Shota in BL, just not all.
And to answer your question, not all BL/Yaoi center around grown men getting it on............The genre has a wide array of characters and story lines.

Hope it helps.

1) I would never tell my friends, simply because they find anime in general to be weird

2) I may consider it if people were more accepting

3) Well, it may be looked down upon because of the whole gay/religious thing...if people grew up being told that all gays were bad, and the world would be better without them, then of course they will look down on boys love.

Thanks. Me saying, "men getting it on," was a dramatization - I realize that it has a lot of flexibility and depth to it, just as yuri does. I probably seemed to be belittling it as a genre, and I'm sorry for that.

The terminology that it shared with the androphilic pedophile (like NAMBLA, for a well known example) crowd just threw me off a bit, so I was really interested in finding a precise definition of boy love as a genre of entertainment. Thank you for taking the time to explain!

Oh it was no problem at all:) I am glad you learned more about the genre.
As for it sounding like you belittled the genre, I admit I kind of thought you did. But it is all fine now!
Thanks for the buddy request! Let's talk sometime

Interesting discussion! I thought I'd add my two cents.

1. I do tell my friends. I write gay romance for a living, so it's not really a surprise to anyone. However, I don't use the term "boys love," especially with those not familiar with anime/manga. The term is just too ambiguous and misleading. "Boy" to us Americans generally means child or teen, and that's not really what I'm referring to when I say I like BL. What I mean is I like reading gay romantic relationships between two consenting men (or older teens as long as the content isn't sexually explicit).

2. Sure thing, I'd tell people. As I said, I'm a published gay romance author under my real name, so it's not like I would keep something like this a secret.

3. I think there are several factors at work here. For one, gay relationships are not even legal in some countries and are a point of moral/ethical/religious contention in many others. Therefore, reading stories in which gay relationships are portrayed in a positive light is somewhat of a taboo in certain circles. On the other side, even for those who support gay relationships in real life, the prevalence of rape, abuse, and even pedophilia for titillation in some BL might be enough to keep others away from the genre as a whole.

4. I don't really have enough experience in the BL genre to make recommendations, though I would love to get some from everyone else, especially manga, which is fairly new to me. I am into sweet love stories, awkward moments, and quirky characters. A little bit of aggression is alright, but I don't want to read anything with noncon or rape. Sexually explicit is also okay (but certainly not required) as long as it is between consenting adults.
