Post Reply Does anyone else agree that loving anime is painful?

It's a good kind of pain. The pain that comes with true love.

It can be. Especially if (in no particular order):

- you simply have no one to share your favorites with or anime tastes in general, or if you don't like some other fans
- noone around you appreciates anime / thinks it "cartoons"
- you cannot watch all anime at the same time
- you don't follow the trends, what is "good" anime
- you lost interest in something you like
- you can't get into what your friends watch

I suppose its all in how you look at it; it may be painful but it is definitely worth it.

Exactly! You aren't alone.

Am I the only one who purposely leaves myself on cliff hangers sometimes so that the next time I watch the show will be more enjoyable because I've been waiting so long for it?

I think the worst experience for me about loving any sort of Anime/Manga/LN/VN is the very fact you can share in the emotions that the author connects you with to the characters and the world. Yet no matter how hard you dream or understand the series you can never actually partake with the characters and world you come to love and admire.

I use J-music as a solace at that point.

I know it can't just be me. Falling in love with an anime is kind of a painful experience. Every time I get really hooked on an anime, I invest so much mental energy, become sleep deprived and anxious about every episode and feel so much it friggen hurts. When I get attached to characters and they achieve something or kick ass or do something really sweet I just like squeal with joy. It's not healthy.

Does anyone agree or have similar experiences? Lol

It's a selfless love isn't it? We shouldn't indulge or become attached, but it's pointless to fight against such an emotional opposition. Time and time again, I feel myself brought down by anime. I can't help it, the most beautiful animes turn out to be the saddest. I must be a masochist -- because I live for these moments. So many feels!!!!

It really is a selfless love! And you're right, the most beautiful are the most saddest, every time! I'm always saying, why do I do this to myself? But like it's a whole new perspective for me. It's an overwhelming love. Sometimes I need to take mental breaks between animes because it wears me down but in good ways.

This is like my life in summary. Lol. Maybe that's why it's so painful. xD Though nothing ticks me off more when people say it's just a "cartoon." NO! It's really not.

Oh I couldn't agree more. The closest to partaking is if you literally dream about it. Which I've actually had happen to me twice then get really pissed when I wake up. You just like want to touch them characters... But there's this stupid glass window in the way. >:O

Idk, I got into this WEIRD habit of just stopping watching shows, even if I like them, when there are like 3-5 episodes left.

It's like, I get to the last 3 episodes or whatever, and I say to myself "well I'm going to finish this show soon anyway, might as well start a new show", and I've done that like 11 times in a row without even finishing any of the shows.

Has anyone else ever fallen into this dreadful habit?

Yeah, especially afterwards, when I listen to a song or look at a scene and feel so much nostalgia.

Assuming they story and characterization is decent I tend to get attached to characters in any long form media, by that I mean something you spend a good amount of time with like a book or 12+ anime episodes not short like a movie.

When I'm done with it I feel sad like I'm saying goodbye to close friends.

It's worse if the ending is "bad". For example, I finished the Fate route of the FSN VN the other day and was depressed for days over saber. It wasn't even my first time through, I just wanted to unlock UBW to play along with the new series.

Yes, because when you love something you have to let it go...or something like that

Cliffhangers are annoying but no ending piss me off more than a flashback or dream ending.
