We need plenty of breaks from serious topics and life-stuff, especially shitstorm threads.

I highly prefer the random threads over the super serious debate threads.

Why do people seem to earnestly enjoy devoting time out of their days to seek out a cycle of internet conflict and spew their hatred on people? I just came for the lulz...

Anything to cure my boredom seems interesting after awhile. I annoy special snowflakes on tumblr if almost ungodly level bored. It's the same concept as the diet coke and mentos experiment or rather renders similar results , it lasts for a very short duration creates a mess and is more than mildly amusing. Social Justice nimrods are so easily trolled.

Also yes, randomized threads far surpass serious discussion threads most of which the topics aren't familiar to me at all. Random is good and extended discussion, unless it's about something I know too much of / am really passionate about liking or hating or hold a strong opinion of; see above, I could ramble for hours about the bullshittery that is tumblr's fake social justice because I have too much firsthand experience dealing with the loons who piled it ludicrously on what used to be my personal dash. Extended discussion is something I generally only join if I feel i will not make a fool of myself by sounding uber misinformed. I'm a bit embarrassed at the idea of being corrected because frankly, yes, I am a know it all who has this affirmation of rightness and I hate that.

Then you get all these tools making topics about religion, which sparks a debate, which turns into a flame war.. They're stupid and don't even know it.

isn't this topic just as stupid? A topic of that is pointless to talk about stupid topics?

That is because children don't know how to have a mature conversation, not the topic to blame. We should be able to discuss anything without things breaking down and getting out of hand.

No, this topic presents a valid question as there are a lot of frivolous (that means silly mmkay) topics and OP (moi ) genuinely wanted to have a discussion as to what some other users throught about it either way, and in so doing that, it served its purpose to get a partial answer to the question with participants, so having efficiently achieved that inquisitory purpose for which it was intended, so it was hardly being a stupid question at all to say the least, just an unpopular one. Despite there were a lot of other users who complained about Extended Discussion being removed because Extended Discussion contained all of the serious, in-depth,political ,religious, etc threads there, keeping them from spilling out into the main forum. This poll was even moreso useful in that light because in here there were people who felt the opposite about the need for Extended Discussion and were glad its gone. In essence, getting rid of Extended Discussion effectively is phasing out those kinds of threads in favour of more frivolous, crap threads. If controversial topics were handled maturely we probably would still have ED IMHO and everyone would be happy. Getting rid of Extended Discussion was a bad thing, but I understand why it had to happen, if we're not mature enough to handle a serious discussion then we don't deserve it.

This is the internet, isn't everything stupid.

Take the chill pill and enjoy it for what it's worth.

eeehhh, some ops are eccentric, some are trying to be eccentric or attract attention, and some are pretentious. GD hasn't really changed much at all and the silly topics typically fall away after a few days.

ED wasn't bumped nearly as much so i can see the sense in it going away. want a serious discussion make a serious topic and if you want people to continually see it then just keep bumping it; but expect silly responses.

I think this forum and site in general isn't a place to really talk about huge problems like so. I mean this isn't some science or religion forum. When I come to an anime forum I want to talk about funny or semi serious topics.I understand your want for it but a whole thread about it is pointless. You can just ignore the stupid topics. You are intelligent enough to find the ones you want to discuss. You are expecting Naruto5260 to tell you the mass of the universe, Not that Naruto5260 is a bad guy but he is just here for fun. Not that I think serious topics are bad either. You can have them here I don't care but a whole thread on why topics are bad and questioning it is ,well, pointless. :p

I've come to realize kind of recently that this community is not really good for serious debates (like religion, politics, social issues). I've seen it work better on another anime forum I go to, but for this community, it is just better suited for the lighthearted and whimsical topics. I've come to accept that that is just how this community is. The community that developed here doesn't want to discuss srs and controversial topics (which is fine, just stating things as a matter of fact), and would rather be all about the whimsy and things which tend to be lighthearted.

Is is by far the stupidest thread of all the 'stupid threads'.
