"Is the glass half empty or half full? is a common expression, generally used rhetorically to indicate that a particular situation could be a cause for optimism (half full) or pessimism (half empty), or as a general litmus test to simply determine an individual's worldview." -wikipedia

Does this actually decide if your an optimist or not?

I prefer my glass 3/4 filled, so I don't spill it but still have enough to drink. is that optimistic or pessimistic? Or just outright demanding?

idk i remember reading a post like if i had a glass and someone poured a glass of water half way i would say its half full, but if i had a full glass of water and drank half of it i would say it be half empty

It depends.

The glass can't be half empty if it was never full. However. If it was at one point full, and then you emptied half of it, it would technically be both half empty and half full at that point. However, had you only filled it up half way in the first place, then it would only be half full, not half empty.

So in conclusion, a glass containing a liquid with volume equal to half of the glass's maximum capacity is always half full, and conditionally half empty.

So greedy.

But seriously. Can I drink it yet? Or are we just going to keep philosophizing while my throat burns and cracks like the Sahara desert?

Hey, hey....here's one.

An optimist, pessimist, and realist go out drinking. They all order a beer, and drink half. The optimist and pessimist start arguing about if it's half full or half empty. While they're doing that, the realist drinks the rest of his beer, downs the pessimist's beer, and then finishes off with the optimist's beer. After finishing, he turns to them and says,

'Now they're both just empty.'

It's possible for my water to be full or half full. So right now, I'm 3 quarters full.
