Glass half empty or half full?

But seriously. Can I drink it yet? Or are we just going to keep philosophizing while my throat burns and cracks like the Sahara desert?

Hey, hey....here's one.

An optimist, pessimist, and realist go out drinking. They all order a beer, and drink half. The optimist and pessimist start arguing about if it's half full or half empty. While they're doing that, the realist drinks the rest of his beer, downs the pessimist's beer, and then finishes off with the optimist's beer. After finishing, he turns to them and says,

'Now they're both just empty.'

Keep philosophising, because it's so productive to our lives.

Have you read the fairy tale about a philosopher who kept counting the stars until he fell off the cliff?

The glass is half full but it's full of bliss.

It depends on what I'm doing.

If I'm pouring a drink, it'd be half full, if I'm drinking it, it'd be half empty.

I'm so pessimistic at times that sometimes the glass isn't even there. xD

Maybe the glass is just bigger than it needs to be?

...but based on this Forbes article it's better to see the glass half full:
http://www.forbes.com/sites/margiewarrell/2012/09/19/see-the-glass-half-empty-or-full-7-keys-for-optimism-in-tough-times/

Research has found that seeing the glass half full not only makes you happier, it makes you healthier and wealthier. A study by Psychologist Susan Segerstrom found that ten years after graduation, law students who were optimistic earned an average of $32,667 more than their glass-half-empty peers.

This. This is the logic that should be praised.

Never understood why people bothered going so deep into this. If you are pouring water into the glass, and stop halfway there, it's half full. If you drink from a full glass, and stop halfway, it's half empty.

the glass for me is at 60 % its capacity seeing as you do not want to over fill it but at half capacity it could either gain or lose water depending on what actions happen to the glass. does this make me an optimistic or pessimistic?

I always asked "what is the half of contents that I am determining it is half full or half empty?" It also depends on how I feel about that content. Is it optimistic to say it is half empty or half full? I could say that is half empty, being optimistic that saying that will prompt someone to fill it up, so I can be drinking already.

Edit:
"It's half full still?! I can't keep drinking anymore, I'm gonna pass out!"

Well if the glass was full at one point and half has been poured away then it's half empty. If the glass had no water and was filled halfway it would be half full. But I guess that's just how my logic works
