Yes I counted all the shows that I can see on the winter 2015 line up since it only includes the Anime licenced for NL.
Yurikuma is available in 4 subs (German - French - Italian - Spanish)
Absolute Duo has 3 options (German - French - Spanish)
Shonen Hollywood has 3 (German - French - Spanish)

and all the others include English. So I guess the people who dropped their language courses get 11 shows (English is mandatory so it can't be dropped) and everyone who took a third language throughout school (or in college/ uni) gets the full 14. Unless you took Frisian or Mandarin
as your third language class....

Even tried in German, but my German just isn't good enough. Funi also doesn't seem an option (or has that changed). So it's quite annoying missing so many shows (a majority this line up).

Yes, without "special measures", Funi is not an option.

Even if part of AnimaxUK's business model is a two hour block on some cable network, it still ought to stretch its region to include Ireland, the Netherlands, and the Norse countries ... but being a subsidiary of a subsidiary of Sony, its probably not going to be so innovative, and with Animax rooted in a family of cable and satellite networks, its got a much more country-by-country approach than a pure internet streaming company would have.

Is-9 wrote: The way Europe is split up seems completely random, honestly, and it varies from publisher to publisher. It's the same for Scandinavia, sometimes we're English-speaking, sometimes we're continental Europe, a few times we've even been counted as German-speaking.

Exactly ... it depends on the terms of the licensors, some of which likely reflect either confusions on the part of the Japanese or just whatever distribution area some physical distributor happened to request sometime in the last ten to twenty years.

If some German distributor included Denmark and the Low Countries in its ask, and the licensor said "OK", because there were no physical distributors in those countries bidding for anime, that could be a time bomb in the contract definitions that goes off a decade later when suddenly video streaming means there is a digital distributor in the form of Crunchyroll that wants to license for those countries. And that could even be a distributor that tried distributing anime and then abandoned it a long time ... contracting costs means that there can be a lot of inertia in contract terms, since its always cheaper to re-use an existing contract than to write a new one from scratch.

The biggest motivator in the anime industry is money. Crunchyroll could offer a "top-up" to the Minimum Guarantee for giving a "complete" license to some sensible region ... the amount of money is not very large compared to royalties from distribution of discs or from broadcasts on cable systems. And it costs money to have a lawyer vet the modification of the standard definitions in a contract, in multiple languages, and the way that regions are broken up reduces the per-region streaming revenue, so its probably hard to convince them to "clean up" the language to make things consistent.

From what I can tell, NO region is getting all shows this season - not counting shorts, J-Dramas and continuing/catalog titles, there are 19 new shows coming to Crunchyroll this season, and even the US (which has the highest number of shows available as always) is only getting 14 of them. Aside from Asia, Australia seems to be doing worst this season, with only 6 new shows. How many titles are streaming in the Netherlands?

Yes, though I count the shorts as "0.1" of a show, the increase in Funimation licenses and drop in animes on offer put a squeeze on both sides. It would have been even worse except some of the Funimation licenses were from production committees where TV Tokyo had influence, so they were able to save them from being exclusive streaming licenses for Funimation.

Worst this season is probably Asia, since one "Asia except for 2.5billion people" license cannot offset the "Worldwide except Asia".

Sub-Saharan Africa outside of South Africa is likely second worst. I cannot imagine why "Europe (except X, Y, and Z), the Middle East and North Africa" is not "Europe (except X, Y and X), the Middle East, and Africa other than South Africa" ... there can't be any serious licensing of anime anywhere in the African continent between the North African countries and South Africa.

Thanks Discotek Media and CR for adding Golden Boy. More classics are always good and getting more OVAs is always nice. (OVAs tend to be uncensored since they usually aren't broadcasted)

Golden Boy! Technically the first anime I ever bought, gave my friend $20 for it lol. Hell of a bargain, considering I spent $100 ea on Evangelion and Excel Saga a few weeks later lol

Look forward to watching it again, one of the funniest shows ever lol
