I wrote so many things to respond to this lol. Time to abridge my thoughts...

The same nerds who pick apart everything they watch are likely the same ones actually buying the Blu-Rays and supporting the industry. (I guess, in their own way, they enjoy watching anime that they don't like, because they like to finish what they started, because they like analyzing and complaining, etc.)

When I was a noob, I was more concerned with forming my own opinion and watching a show blindly, rather than listening to someone else's opinion before I decide to watch a show. I don't know if this is common, but I'm sure others are the same way. So what I mean is that the haters didn't really do anything to drive me off.

It's much easier to write insightful criticism than it is to write insightful and profound praise for a show. I think most people end up writing more complaints than they truly mean to in an effort to make a well written post.

LN adaptations really are kind of shallow and unoriginal though lol. Every thing post-A Certain Magical Index is really similar to the next thing that comes out.

I don't mind someone putting well thought out criticism, the people who put "This is garbage! Dropped!" and thats it, annoy me.

I like almost everything I watch. However, what bothers me the most is people who hate a show just because they feel that it's "overrated." If you don't like something that's fine, but not liking something because other people dislike it seems foolish.

I lost interest in anime for the longest time. I rewatched DBZ now and then but that was literally it lol. In September 2014, out of the blue, I noticed my friend had one of the openings of Blue Exorcist in his music library and I told him I watched that show a looong time ago. I only ever watched like 5 animes in my life. It has been yeaaars since I laid eyes on anime, but then he told me to watch Sword Art Online. I finished SAO... I realized the beauty of anime and went on a huge spree of anime as of late. I can't even remember most of them lol

couldn't the same thing be said of "positive" criticism though? Someone says an anime is good, then lots of people rush to see that anime... but then are left disappointed = increased hatred for that particular show... (case in point, Sword Art Online, Attack on Titans).

so should we stop writing opinions about anything and just watch anime?

opinions are like a.......e, everyone has one.

What people need to realise is that... just because I gave something 1 star it doesn't mean they can't enjoy it. Personal life experience, even sexuality of the anime viewer can affect how they perceive a show. There's really no objective way to qualitatively rate a show. A show might have the dumbest characters and cheesiest lines, but someone from somewhere might have a life experience that can relate with the protagonists... you can't really judge their tastes since you've never lived that person's life.

Anyway... my point is... even positive criticism is just as bad as negative criticism. Read if you want to, don't read if it bothers you :-/ nobody is forcing you to come here to read people's essays.

"Music is mysterious and I think it’s as necessary to human life as breathing."

-- Stephen Sondheim

This sentiment also applies to Anime for long time otakus like myself. Given that movies like Wolf Children, Grave of the Fireflies and The Tale of Princess Kaguya can move even the most cynical hearts to tears, I deplore the current status quo of mass produced, lowest common denominator titles that cater only to socially-challenged Moe otakus. If CR simulcasts one more wish fulfillment fan service harem Magical Battle High School LN adaptation this season, I may defect to Funimation. Recent titles like Space Dandy, Rage of Bahamut, Death Parade and Rolling Girls prove that there is more to anime than accidental boob grabs and bro/sis cons.

I agree with you. Personally, I could care less about bashing an anime. If I like it, I like it. Even if I think it's somehow bad, I'll still end up watching it to the end and enjoy it. So what's the point of complaining and bashing? People take reviewing and rating anime too far at times. It's like everyone wants to be a critic.

And you're right about Blade Dance, I enjoyed the anime, but the LN is better and is getting really good at this point.

im asking this question because it seems that when ever new animes come out people just bash them and say they are bad, not even worth watching.

I very much enjoy it. It simply seems like noone does because haters always SHOUT THEIR OPINION, whereas people who like it keeps it to themselves because theres no reason to be vocal about it.
I think a slight problem is simply how much anime is out there these days. So once you watch one absolutely fantastic series, it kind of makes you expect that everytime which makes it that little bit harder to be impressed

It's almost like you don't even read the very forum you're posting on. Sure, haters hate - but drooling fanfolk drool too. Read the discussion threads sometime, people who like a show are hardly shrinking violets or hesitant to voice their opinion or defend a show they like.

At no point did I say they didn't. If YOU actually read the thread your posting on, you'd see im not the only who thinks haters are more vocal.

Actually, yes, you did essentially say they didn't. How else am I to interpret "people who like it keeps it to themselves"? That's not at all the same thing as "people who like it tend to talk, but people who hate it tend to TALK LOUDER", which is what you're now claiming to have said. (And again, this isn't like anything anyone has said in the thread other than two people mentioning criticism - which, while different than hate, is still not necessarily approval.)

I'm fine with people hating on shows but that's only if they give good reasons for them to hate it. Otherwise they are just hating for the sake of hating. I also feel that people will usually hate on the more "popular" shows because they overshadow the shows that they think should have more attention.

But at the same time I must admit that even I feel that some of the more popular shows (Sword Art Online, Attack on Titan, Aldnoah.Zero) are mediocre or below average. But there still are good shows coming out and I think those who say it's ALL garbage are just not watching the right anime for them.

Not everyone has the same tastes or preferences, so having someone criticize a show you love is bound to happen -- that's not being a "hater" that's just being an individual. I'm fairly certain that if you were to take a thousand people and have them rate every series airing this season, you'd likely have a thousand different ratings!

Personally, I tend to be critical of most shows, whether they be live or anime, because it helps me to improve my own work -- if I recognize a flaw in someone else's work, I can better recognize that same flaw in my own and avoid it. When I review something I break it down into a myriad of small components, the individual building blocks that comprise the broader aspects of the show or book -- an approach that many would undoubtedly describe as "nitpicking" but which I feel is simply being thorough.

But, at the same time, I have very loose standards for entertainment -- as long as a show doesn't just bore me to sleep, I'll watch it. Heck, sometimes watching a show with a critical eye can be more entertaining than the show itself -- Mystery Science Theatre 3000 is a wonderful example of that! After all, I'm not looking for the secret to world peace, I'm just looking for something to fill some free time -- good humor, edge-of-your-seat suspense, likable (or un-likable) characters, stunning art, a clever plot twist, or just a quiet happy feel-good show.

I feel like I'm able to enjoy them much more now than when I started watching anime 6 years ago. At that time I had such a massive choice of good shows that made me become very picky.
Nowadays i just watch everything and I hardly drop anything. Just take my time and enjoy each and every episode.
