Yeah, once. I had to sell some of my games to afford food. I bought two bags of rice from Street Fighter IV. Only game that's ever saved my life.

Have I ever lacked the funds to buy something I've wanted? Sure. But I've never been broke in the sense that I could not pay for my necessities. However, it's no longer really the question of if I can purchase something, but more so should I.

Been broke for years, ride my bike in sub-freezing temperatures 40 minutes each way to work because there is no bus route in that direction and I have no money for a car

All people have at one time or another. Here is some good advice.

Never spend more than 10% of your paychecks. This doesn't include bills because yeah, those have to be paid. Same with food. Save the rest. Personally I allocate an amount for food each month as well. If you're single. I also suggest asking your parents to live with them for a short time. A year or so at most. And living by the 10% rule at that point. You can put back a lot of cash in a year.

Up until the last generation or two. It was normal for people to live with their parents, even while married. But of course. Back then. Houses were bigger. That's why we say things like "Family home". It was literally a home for the family. My father lived with his parents while married and with me as an infant. But they were able to buy a house because of this, and furnish it. By the time I was 1.

I'm finally digging my way out inch by inch. There was a point where I couldn't afford to get to work....but without work I couldn't pay bills lol, vicious catch 22. In 3-4 years my debt should be fully paid off [unless something psycho breaks in my car or house]. If all is well after that I plan to invest in a trip to Japan as celebration

I'm currently broke lol. I'm a college student and I could live with my mom, but her boyfriend and I don't get along. So I moved out on my own. I do have a nice paying job at the most popular hospital but it still leaves me being broke because of rent, bills, gas, groceries T.T but i am happier as ever though!!!

I use to be broke because of my previous relationships.... Them high school days. I have a considerable amount now, but I still consider myself broke since that's my college money. D: And I don't have a job, all my money is from financial aid.
