Awesome story, man!

I was really young when I started watching anime. I was around 6 or 7, I think. Dragon Ball Z was kind of like the catalyst that sparked my love for anime. When I was 13 years old, I started to skate and hang out w/ friends more so from then on I watched anime on and off. It wasn't until last year that I really got back into it because of Durarara!!

But as a kid, these were some of the shows that kept my interest in anime going:
Dragon Ball Z
Gundam Wing
G Gundam
Rurouni Kenshin
Case Closed
Rave Master
Gate Keepers
Gensoumaden Saiyuki
Shaman King
Crash Gear Turbo
Flame of Recca
YuYu Hakusho
Cooking Master Boy
Lupin III
Ghost In The Shell

Hello forum!!
My name is Raymond and im 46 living in San Diego still loving anime. It started for me when i was little and my father was stationed in Okinawa at Kadena Air Force base. I was watching anime's like: (old versions)- Captain Harlock, Yamato (US calls it Star Blazers), Ultraman series (all the brothers, not just one like in the U.S.), Some kind of tiger mask wrestler series, Cassian, and many more that i don't remember the names. Ultraman was not an anime it was what you would call a hero shows like "Power Rangers" or Mask Rider. Mask rider and a few other hero shows was some that i also grew up with.
When we finally moved to the states, i was going to be in for a real anime shock. My first shocker was the "cartoon" Bugsbunny where characters would get shot, blown up and nobody dies. At a young age this gave me a sense of how life was valued as a comedy. Where in the anime's i watched in Japan when a character gets killed, they don't come back!! they are done!!! So it took me some time to adjust to "American Cartoons" but i was not satisfied with the change. Then during my high school years the US started showing more anime from Japan like Voltron, Battle of the Planets, and not to mention Robotech. During this time, i met a good friend Lance that introduced me to a whole new anime world that i have missed out on and he also introduced me to Cityhunter, the screen name of the individual that has started this forum ,and another good friend Lunck. This took place between 1985-87 and we all are still in touch till this day talking anime.
When i viewed Robotech and with my military aircraft experience background, i became a MACROSS fan.
Thats pretty much ends my anime journey up to date in a brief explanation.

Shows i have enjoyed so far:
Macross Plus
Macross Frontier
Macross Do you Remember Love
Macross Zero
Ghost in the Shell (All series)
Cowboy Bebop
Megazone 23
Viper's Creed
Gun Smith cats
Ah My Goddess
Golden Boy
Blue Steel Arpeggio
Five Star Stories
Gundam 0083
Gundam Unicorn
Gundam MS Team
Attack on Titan

Mecha Fans everywhere, do yourself a favor and check out the Anime and Manga versions of The Five Star Stories!!!!
It takes mecha Art designs in a whole different direction and the story's is good too!!!!
It kinda does to the Navy's F-14 Tomcat what Macross and Yukikaze did !!!
and theses are good shows as well!!!
Thanks again, Raymond!!!

My name is Joshua, and I am 20 years old and living in Colorado. I have been watching Anime as far back as I can remember, before I knew it was Anime. My first experiences were with the original Sailor Moon Dub by DiC, Dragonball Z, and Pokemon. As I began to get older, I remember seeing a show called Inuyasha on Adult Swim. I remember getting hooked on the action and either staying up late to watch it, or getting up at 2 or 3 in the morning to catch it. This eventually got me watching other Anime, specifically Big-O and Ghost in the Shell, as well as Blood+. Eventually, Naruto began airing in the states, and that got me really hooked on anime, but it was when I went looking for the original japanese dub of Sailor Moon that I knew that I loved Anime. Since then, I have been watching anime. I watched quite a few over the years, but these are what I have been enjoying recently.

Sailor Moon(Viz Media's Redub)
Fairy Tail
Sailor Moon Crystal
Arpeggio of Blue Steel
Sword Art Online

In the past, this is what I watched.

Yu-Yu Hakusho
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex (original and 2nd gig)
Gurren Lagann

Hopefully, I will be able to expand my horizons more now that I'm here.

Before 2012, I was never much to watching anime. Before then, the only anime I watched were Pokemon, Naruto, and DragonBall Z. I more into watching T.V and playing video games. I was watching T.V late one night and I saw a show called Sword Art Online. When I watched it, I was extremely excited. After watching 14 episodes, new episodes aired every week, I wanted to watch more. So I looked up online, I watched the rest the next few days. That's when I was hooked onto anime.

I think I must have been about 10 the first time I saw anime. I liked the show. The next time I saw more was when I was 16/17 then I didn't see any again until the last few years.

i remember there was a time when you could walk into a Japanese grocery store and they had small section of anime. That was like hidden secret treasure. It didn't matter that it was raw, you were just glad you could watch Dragonball Z and whatever else they decided to get.

I'm a mecha fan so as long as it had robots in it I was sold. Anything from Super Giant Robots to Gundam to Macross

To avoid duplication here is my list

if you like SAO then there is Record of the Lodoss Wars
Magic Knight Rayearth
Dirty Pair
Nadia and the Secret of Blue Water
Banner of the Stars

I watched InuYasha when I was like 7-8ish, but that was the ONLY anime I watched at the time and refused to watch anything else (I don't even remember why).
Then when I was around 14, a friend introduced me to Rave Master. THAT'S where it really started. After that was Ouran High School Host Club, Chrono Crusade, Full Moon wo Sagashite, Code Geass... and everything just kind of took off.

Well I always watched all the shonens and such as a kid (dbz, naruto, yugioh, pokemon, etc) so that's where it started.

However I didn't fully get into anime until 8th grade when I watched Death Note for the first time. It was funny explaining some of it to my spanish teacher at the time, I wonder what she was thinking lol. After Death Note I went straight into Code Geass, which if Death Note was the tinder Code Geass was the spark. Code Geass was the first anime I ever got ahead of what was being shown on TV and had to go find the videos online with english subs instead of the dubs.

After that I kind of just watched whatever was on TV until I was in college, and started using Netflix to watch anime while dealing with my insomnia. Then last summer I experienced an anime renaissance of sorts, sparked by my boredom of playing d3. Started off by Fate/Zero on Netflix, and exhausting most of Netflix's animes led me to Crunchyroll. Where I have now watched well over a 100 different animes from that point, closing in on 200.

Hey all, I'm 32. Started watching anime in the mid-90s I'd say. Dragonball Z was the first show that I realized was anime, but I had definitely seen things like Voltron, Ronin Warriors, and Akira, which I hadn't realized were anime back at that time. Since then I have watched way too many shows to name, but some of my favorites, in no particular order are:

Dragonball Z
Ghost in the Shell (Mainly the first film, but the series as well)
Almost any UC Gundam
G Gundam
SDF Macross
Dirty Pair/Crusher Joe
Legend of the Galactic Heroes
Paprika (in fact almost any work of Satoshi Kon)
Mononoke Hime
Summer Wars
The Girl Who Leapt Through Time

and way too many more to name. I don't want to sound like a curmudgeonly old guy, but there are few newer shows that keep my attention. Though Kill la Kill was a great diamond in the rough.
