How Do You Honor MLKJ's Legacy?

Nothing much to honor.....except for......you know....his involvement in fighting for equal rights and stuff

But who cares about all that garbage?

He wasn't the only one. And to disregard the efforts of others by honoring only ONE is dumber in my opinion.

But yeah, who cares, right?

Anyone at anytime can honor civil rights leaders. Also, federal buildings,streets,parks,etc... are dedicated in the honors of many civil rights leaders. Everyday can't be a federal holiday, what is wrong with not having a day for ever significant person? Its okay if you don't care, but your reasoning makes no sense. Like the guy who also commented is saying, how can you not at least show respect for someone who fought for equal rights?

I do not really get why he is a "hero", but he's a great symbol for the fight against racial inequality.

Someone who spent their life stealing other people's intellectual property and claiming all the credit does not deserve any form of respect in my book. Sorry.

Individual presidents don't even get a day for their accomplishments and a plagiarist does? I don't see how that reasoning can make any sort of sense at all.

Anyway, too lazy to continue this. Google it if you want. I'm glad I get a day off, but I'm not going to bother with "honoring" a person I personally don't find honorable.

By sleeping, and thanking the lord (or jesus-kun) that I was not born in that time. I think that MLK is just a good figure head and that even if he was a plagiarist, at least he was plagiarizing for a good cause. Obviously there a lots of other people that made this happen, but we can't have a holiday for everyone.

I could care less if he plagiarized from what I've read it was more like incorporating ideas into his speeches. Either way, why should I care if he plagiarized? As a minority, if it weren't for him and people like him, I would be a second class citizen. His methods were effective however he obtained his speeches. I like being able to eat in restaurants, not having to use the bathroom in an outhouse and am glad I was able to earn a proper education. If he didn't "plagiarize" maybe I wouldn't be able to pursue my dream of becoming an architect. Also, if a person had to be perfect to get a day, no one would.

I don't. No matter what MLKJ may or may not have done, I struggle with wanting to "honor" people that I don't personally know. Plus, my sinus infection is a bitch. I think I may be coming down with bronchitis, too. Ugh. I'm really not feeling up to honoring anyone.

Protecting children from violence.

''Parents.... have come to realize that children can be well behaved, cooperative, and without ever being punished physically''.

I agree on the not knowing someone bit. My sinuses are ok barring the allergic reactions every now and again.

On the actual day, nothing. However, last week I participated in some kind of talent showcase thing in honor of MLK. A bunch of kids from different schools performed. It was things like choruses (I was in one of them), monologues, step teams (didn't know what it had to do with MLK but it was awesome), interperative dancing, etc.
