When looking for a new anime to watch, I typically read the description of the anime before deciding whether to watch it or not. Although I've always wondered, is it really right to just judge an anime before watching it? Or do you still choose to give it a go even if it doesn't seem to be that good?

I'm curious to see your opinions on this.

I do multiple passes, especially here on CR its easy to check out ones you've skipped over a few times.
Usually i'll read the description and see if its something i want to see right now, if not i pass on it and move on. Sometimes if i see it enough times, i start to think it may be better than i thought and i give it a shot. If it is bad, i just drop it after a couple of episodes.

Sometimes i read the comments too. Gotta look at the reviews and see what i should expect out of it.

I do it all the time, but its when I take the chance on something I usually don't think ill like that I find my favorites. A show about basketball, cycling, volleyball??At first glance, I wasn't interested at all, now I'm a sports anime fanatic .

Yeah, why not? For me it's usually the cover, the description and then the reviews!

I check the genre first and then read the description..those are the two that matter to me the most.

Well, covers are supposed to advertise the series, so, yeah, it's alright. Someone looking a little deeper is okay, too. The way I see it, in my entire lifetime, I can only hope to watch less than 5% of anime in existence. Henceforth, I can afford to be picky and rather shallow. For every anime that I skip over, another can be viewed.

80/20 rule applies.

80% will be pretty much exactly what it says on the tin.

20% will not.

80% of what doesn't will be worse than the copy implied and fail to meet expectations. (Sword Art Online, Angel Links, Legend of Crystania, Gundam Seed)

The remaining 20% will be better. (Kodomo no Jikan, Evangelion, Parasyte)

I (obviously) read the description and watch part of the first episode as the cover can be misleading.

It's not sensible, but I still do it anyway.

I don't think I would ever watch those little girls shows with like 7-10 similar looking girls on the cover...

Rather than worrying if it's "right" or not, it's more a matter of personal preference.

Sometimes, it's difficult to tell whether an anime is actually just a hentai series by the cover alone, so I do feel that you should read a little bit of the description first, before watching...

Eeeh depends. Sometimes preference will play in where genres are concerned, but there was a time I judged stuff by artwork. I've brought it up before but I put off Clannad for longest time due to the artstyle, finally I forced myself to watch it and I loved it.

I look for the description and then I go see the MAL rating. I also check some reviews here and in MAL too. The MAL rating can be deceiving, but it is right almost everytime. I only watch an anime with rate lower than 7.50 if more than one person recommend it to me. But I may drop it, if it is not good.

As someone said before, every anime you skip, you give another one the chance to be watched.

Well if you're reading the description that really isn't judging it by it's cover, you get an idea of what you're going to see, other than that I try to watch at least the 3 first episodes, usually you can tell within 2-3 if it's enjoyable for you or not. No reason to waste your time watching 10 episodes if you're not enjoying it, I gave cowboy bebop 5 episodes just cause it's so highly acclaimed, I still couldn't get into it, just not for me I guess.

I try not to, but sometimes the art work is very important to me, and if I see too many generic things, I'll often not watch it. Unless I like the description, but even then it won't do it justice.
