So as my first forum post, I wanted to get the thoughts of all you out there on this idea I've recently had. How does the thought of "Your Life Is Your Lie" sound to you? Is it something that you can relate to? Do you agree or not agree with it?
Tell me anything that it may remind you of, or even the way it makes you think about life.

****Update****

Just to put things more in perspective:

From a philosophical perspective, "lies" have very well shaped the world around you in so many ways. We not only lie to each other, but to ourselves as well. Society itself is a lie along with wars, media, and politics. We often lie to ourselves saying that things are "fine" or things are "ok the way that they are." We can lie that we don't need "this" and we don't need "that", and in worse case scenarios we can lie that "the world would be a better place without me" or maybe even a better place without someone they hate.

Please, speak your mind!

I dont know what you mean. Like we're making up a life, and life is not real? Or we're all posers and what we think is our life isn't really our life?

Either way, I think Billy Joel said it best.

I always lie. Being honest doesn't always get you want you want, including happiness.

I couldn't say if she's evil.
The mom that I knew is not my mom.
My name is not my name.
My home is not my home.
My life is not my life.

Maybe it has something to do with how my limited perceptions cloud my judgment, and how my opinions are biased by my instincts and personal desires. No matter how hard I try, I am unable to truly understand the reality that shapes the universe around me and how I am supposed to fit into it. Thus, I am essentially living a lie.

Or maybe it's an existential speculation suggesting that maybe my life doesn't actually exist, and that everything which I perceive to exist can be no more existent than my nonexistent life. Thus, the entire notion that my life does exist is a lie.

I can't agree with this.
"Your life" is never fully yours- it belongs also to those closest to you, whether it be in love or hate. Even if you keep secrets that no one else knows about, the life you live yourself is influenced by the people around you. That means that "Your life" is not only "Your lie", but "The lie of everyone around you".

...and their lies are your truth.

Really, what I'm getting at here is that people live lies everyday, mainly people lie to themselves. Your life may never be truly yours, but you do have the ultimate say in it. Your decisions and choice's are influenced by your environment and where you "think" you stand in it, and that itself is "your lie".

And just as you brilliantly said TripleBaka, "their lies are your truth", and ultimately, you interpret all these "lies" as "your truth". So instead of saying something like "Life is based on what you believe to be the truth", your life is based on "lies" and if your life itself is based off of "lies" then technically "Your life is your lie", your lie to believe in all that you "think you know".

This is all just my perspective, but it's great to see the thoughts of others! They're are so many philosophers out there!

Wouldn't mind if it was a lie. Maybe I'm stuck in a bad dream and when I wake up I'll discover I'm actually an Anime character. I could die happy.

life is a manifestation of your perceptions. this statement is true in any aspect because no matter what you are doing, where you are, who you are with, all of it only exists to you because you perceive it.
so that being said, life isn't a lie it is what you perceive it to be. Saying, that you are lying to yourself about something being okay when it is not, or, saying you don't really need something and you do, don't really work out because both examples are subjective and therefore weather they are a lie or not depends solely on how you would perceive them to be. and because if you are still alive then you obviously didn't need the things you thought you did or you would have died. am i right?

i do not completely disagree with your statement however. being that many people are living a lie in this lovely society we have. even i cant be myself when dealing with clients because if i were they would never hire me. me along with everyone else is all wearing that mask (you know from the happy mask shop) all pretending to be proper, or mannerly every time they interact with one another. so ya life is a lie our society is the biggest fucking farce since the moon was made sheetrock right? lol but this doesn't apply to all life just social life. it is possible to be true to yourself 100 percent and know the difference between when you have to put on a face for others to be p.c. Justremember to never look in the mirror while wearing the mask you bought from the happy mask shop because your real face will start to vanish
