I felt like sharing my lame anime story and I wanna hear your guys' too.

So, basically, it was some time in July of '14 and it was rainy and boring. I was on Netflix on my computer, looking for something to watch. You know how there's that slideshow banner that advertises different shows and stuff? That's how I found Death Note, my very first anime. Besides Pokemon, which doesn't really count as part of this, because I wasn't getting into anime in general. I was getting into Pokemon, if that makes any sense. Anyway, so the synopsis was awesome and I wanted to see it. But I noticed it was an anime, which was a genre (genre? thingy?) I had never ventured into before. Honestly, I was wary. Thought I'd become some super-otaku-loser-nerd-geek-with no social llife. Which I am, and did become because of anime. But I didn't lose all my friends or become the stereotypical lonely bullied kid. (So stupid then.) There are a few kids at my school that have similar tastes. I clicked on Death Note and watched a few episodes. Turns out, I really enjoyed it. I liked how the Japanese don't try to do any wannabe showoff complicated 3D shit like America. It's so simple, and yet they made it beautiful. Even though I watched it in dub (Didn't understand the beauty of Japanese then), it was amazing. After I finished
and moved on from it, I started noticing other anime.

My second anime was Kuroshitsuji...but that's a whole nother story

Death Note is a great first anime, as it is a stark contrast to what cartoons are commonly portrayed as (kids; flowers everywhere; lots of fun/learning adventures; etc.)

Not really sure what it was for me, I guess I found the art style and fantasy elements fascinating ...

Sailor Moon as a 5 year old. I wanted her hair. I also liked Speed Racer for some reason. I watch it now and go "why"? The first anime that I knew was an anime when watching it that I was able to watch all the time was Inuyasha. And that lead to the first one I watched in Japanese, Gravitation. Inuyasha also lead me to read a lot of manga. And Inuyasha introduced me to an in real life fandom that made me feel not so alone.

I had always been exposed to anime as a kid. My cousin used to watch Zatch Bell, Naruto, and One Piece. Since I spent most of my time with him, I naturally got into it. The first anime other than Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh! that I decided to watch on my own, however, was Death Note. After Death Note, it wasn't until Sword Art Online (don't hate) that I actually got hooked onto anime, and have been watching since then, which would be since around July of '14.

Pokemon was a huge part of my childhood - and I admittedly still watch it now, albeit not as religiously - and I also watched shows such as Yu-Gi-Oh, and Tenchi Muyo. Dragonball Z, like Pokemon, also became a massive part of my earlier years - god, I loved the show, and the discussions it brought to the classroom. Was so hype. At this point, though, I was never 'into' anime; I just happened to be enjoying shows that were.

It wasn't until when I was in Uni - when a friend sat me down and showed me the first episode of both Elfen Lied and Death Note - that I started to become more intrigued by the genre. Probably because I was older. I decided to start watching Death Note, because of its interesting premise, great art, haunting music, and sinister atmosphere - especially during the earlier episodes which took place in the confines of Light's room.

After Death Note I started to actively seek out anime. Similar ones, initially, but then I branched out, and now I've seen so many cool and inspirational shows/movies.

Adult Swim back in the early 2000's, when fooly cooly was still being shown.

Ignoring what I thought was just cartoons 20 years ago and skipping over the Toonami shows of my youth....

I played FFXI. The players I knew liked anime and so they dragged me into it. Once I quit - I mostly focused on my anime watching as it was what I had left from the time I played. That's all there is to it.

I remember watching Sailor Moon when I was a kid, and I loved it. Then Pokemon came along, and I bought Pokemon cards.
