Do you really hate genuine smiles or do you hate faking a smile? The latter is the case for me. It just feels so... wrong. Real smiles don't come easily or often for me. I also hate when people put on a facade. The minute differences in the facial expression seem so glaringly obvious when someone is faking a smile. Perhaps this effect is similar in nature to the Uncanny Valley... something is just wrong with it.

I hate smiling in general. I guess it's because I usually get the urge to smile whenever it's a joke that's not funny, or when I see someone I don't like. I guess it's more of a nervous smile than anything.

Tsundere probably covers 90% of it.

Ah, I would hate it too if I had the urge in those situations. I didn't know the whole "social smile" used to defuse awkward situations could ever become a natural reaction. I hope you could be free of that some day but it probably won't happen.

Maybe I am the one that's broken though? Does anyone else naturally smile in these situations?

Social smiles are just tools. A physical way to say 'i dont mind your existence' or 'lets do our best to work together without killing each other'.
They're a part of everyones lives. Thats a general trait the majority of people share. Its not unique to you, sorry to say.

Not smiling often is unique to you, however. Just not 'social smiles'.

Please dont call yourself 'broken' btw. Once you get older and experience more things (and quite literally end puberty) you will see that everyone has personality quirks and your being 'broken' is just your own quirkiness.

Once you get a real job after high school or college, you'll see that everyone uses 'social smiles' everyday forever. And its not wrong, strange, or weird. Its just business.

Wow, you almost just described me, except I don't have a problem with smiles, as a kid i smiled a ton, but as I grew I sort of lost that happy personality that I always had.

Oh I know that everyone uses it but I just assumed everyone forces like I would do (If I chose to do so) rather than getting the urge like the OP. I can somehow tell those smiles apart in many people I meet and deep down it just bothers me.

I mentioned the Uncanny Valley because it is a similar effect to that. Games that try to realistically capture human emotion without using an actor for facial capture tend to just feel off but you can't quite tell why. That's how social smiles feel to me. I especially dislike getting my picture taken when people insist I smile because when I look at it I get that same feeling. A photographer can manage to coax a real one out of me usually while a family member is clueless (shouldn't it be the other way around!?). They never seem to think anything is wrong but it gets under my skin.

I can be carefree abd easygoing at times, but when it comes to serious situations I'm very determined.

The only thing I'm leaving behind is my generosity. You get nothing.

I'd say I'm 50% world weary cynic; 50% raging idealist. Simplest way to put it.
