Atticus Finch from To Kill a Mockingbird. He is the definition of a badass.

- Lisbeth Salander (Girl with Dragon tattoo). Intelligent and messed up.
- Hermione Granger (Harry Potter). Because she's funny.
- Haruka Nanase, Makoto Tachibana, Rin Matsuoka (Free!)... I love their friendships... it's something I would want for myself...
- Aeon Flux (Aeon Flux)... I like her rebellious mindset
- Squall Leonhart (FF8)... he's just a lonely guy who's afraid of losing someone, Lightning (FF13)... she is strong independent white woman.

Squall was my first ever fictional character crush... </3 was madly in love with him, was love at first sight

Depends whether you want to pick just one or not. I'm just too easygoing.

Lucky you, I should've picked Archer.

I will go with Rider. He embodies my ideals... fun, freedom, and strength.
Being strong enough to do whatever the hell you want to do while at the same time having fun and not being bogged down in pointless drama.
In with the good, out with the bad.

Kamina is also a strong manifestation of these ideals.

-grins- Every time I see your avatar I hum Ideal White. And I like Shirou, too. I don't understand the hate he gets.

Since you asked so nicely:

Current:
Archer/FSN: UBW - Snarky, badass, and full of intrigue. I'm really looking forward to the second half of UBW for him alone.

All-time:
Riku/Kingdom Hearts: I've has a soft spot for this character since I was 13, and it's not going away any time soon. It's all his fault that I now have a thing for tragic heroes. (Servants, anyone? *cough*) The original KH was also my gateway to Japanese media, so there's that, too. Not to mention it also....

Usagi Tsukino/Sailor Moon -....led to the discovery of my very first anime, Sailor Moon. Mind you, this was a year later. (2003)

Kurama - YYH

Sherlock Holmes

Hermoine Granger

Jack Vessalius/Pandora Hearts - Possibly the only manga ever where I've wanted the Big Bad to win. Jun Mochizuki really loves her yanderes - and it shows, too. A good majority of the cast is either irreparably batshit or broken in some form. It's one hell of a read.

Samus Aran

She is one of the most celebrated characters in video games, which is impressive considering how little she speaks, but she doesnt need to, her actions speak volumes.

Well, atleast I didn't have to make a full length post, this guy captured what I needed to say.
A badass babe that is also a multi-universe renown para-military bounty hunter.

The Characters I have chosen below have been chosen because of their excellence in character development

For the anime/manga/visual novel world: Okabe Rintarou, aka Hououin Kyouma. One of the best instances of character development I've seen since he changes so much throughout Steins;Gate (more specifically the Visual Novel because the inner dialogue and the extra ending add to his development immensely), but he still manages to retain that part of him that he truly loves. I would continue, but I'd be issuing spoilers.

From the United States, I would say Aang and Zuko. Yes, both of them, because much of heir development parallels, as seen in the episodes "The Southern Air Temple", "The Storm", "The Blue Spirit", "Siege of the North", and even in "The Avatar and the Firelord". I would say that Zuko's development was focused on more, since episodes like "Zuko Alone" really developed his past and the burden he bared for all of those years as well as the juxtaposition between him and Azula, but Aang too managed to become much more mature and understand what it means to be the Avatar in episodes like "The Guru" as well as experience loss and regret (like with Appa and Monk Gyatso), even if his development was a little more subtle than Zuko's. Not to mention, their relationship in Season 3 really added the icing to the cake.

My personal fan favorite in the Americas, however, would be Iroh. Iroh is such a rich character who even managed to gain a little development himself in the series or at least we managed to understand his past, even if he wasn't as focused on in the Avatar series (at least not until later). Excellent comedy relief, a source of wisdom and guidance in the series, and the emotional connection we felt towards his character after his original voice actor, Mako, died of cancer and was replaced by his protege. Iroh was a great man and was a personal favorite outside the guidelines of my list.

Ah, but Sokka had such great development...and Katara...and Toph...and even Azula...ah to heck with it. Avatar the Last Airbender had some of the greatest characters and character development of anything I've seen in the Americas or for that matter, ever.

Not to mention, MELON LORD!!! MWHAHAHAHAHA!!!

Shin-chan. He's flawless. His charisma allows him to become take charge of any group, whether it be a tribe of monkeys or a gang of delinquents. He has the creavitiy to find fun in any given situation whether he be home alone or held captive by a criminal revolutionary. He never holds grudges and is unaware of the numerous rivalships he's intertwined, because the only thing he focuses on is the fun side of things. He cares for his friends, family, and younger sister, and will do anything to protect them when the situation arises. There's a bright future ahead of him.

Oh and, his movies are canon, no matter what anyone says.

Courage the cowardly dog

That was the pinnacle of my childhood, and to this day it still is my favorite show ever conceived.

From more of a badass standpoint it would have to be Batman.
