Foods you eat often because of your culture/where you live.

What are some foods do you eat often because of your culture/where you live?

Okay, coming from Louisiana, where both of my parents were Cajun (go ahead, judge all you want), I ate a lot of Cajun food. Actually though, and I'm sure some of you will be surprised to hear, we don't eat crawfish everyday. It's more of a special occasion kind of thing.

Let's see...

I've eaten a po'boy a couple of times... It's basically like a regular sandwich.

Not a food, but we do drink a lot of sweet-tea in the South.

Not a fan of crawfish, but meh. Too spicy.

Boudin and boudin balls, though I don't care for either.

We eat a lot of purple hull peas and rice. Probably to the point that it's unhealthy.

We also eat rice and gravy often.

And jumbalaya, though I don't care for it. (also has rice in it).

Gumbo. (also has rice in it)

Red beans and rice.

As you can see, we eat a lot of rice in Louisiana.

Beans, rice, tortillas, and cheese.
We eat a lot of salsa but not the chunky crap they sell at the grocery stores.
I'm talking about the stuff you make in a molcajete.

I'm from the South so of course sweet-tea.

Biscuits with jam or honey (I'm vegan now so a lot of these things I don't eat any more, like honey for example).

Cornbread.

Pecan pie.

Cobbler.

Pinto beans and black eyed peas.

Pan-fried chicken.

Corn grits (usually eaten with cheese or in my case faux cheese).

Mashed potatoes and greens (collard, mustard or turnip).

Fried okra.

No wonder we have a higher than average risk of stroke.

Chicken, Beef, Pork, Pasta with Beef, Rice with Chicken or Pork, etc. The typical foods Americans eat. Might be why we are such a overweight country, we eat meat 2-3 times a day.

^This

The best way to sum all this up would be Grandma's home cooking.
That was like some of the best stuff ever. Always looked forward to grandma's cooking
I would like to add sweet potatoes, yams, pot roast, roast beef, deviled eggs, gravy, pork chops, catfish, banana pudding, kale, potato salad, and there are plenty more foods to list.

My family is from Northern New Mexico, and I have lived in Colorado and Wyoming my entire life. So I have eaten LOTS of green chile. It is pretty much the signature dish of Colorado.

it's a drink but... sweet tea

a typical southern meal consists of: chicken, green beans, mashed taters, mac 'n cheese, bread, fried okra, and some kind of fruit dessert.

lots of chicken though lol.

i grew up in Louisiana til I was 5 so we eat gumbo and crawfish if we can find em where we currently live

been living in Alaska ever since I was about 5 up, and we eat stuff that we kill with our guns(like caribou, moose and ptarmigan) and stuff that we catch with a hook( like salmon and trout)

can't really think of anything culture wise I guess.
