I would always ask "what are you in for"?

DUI isn't "bad taste" -- it's manslaughter on wheels.

Yep. A couple times. A few friends who let their emotions get the best of them.

Not bailed anybody out of jail but was in jail myself and wasn't bailed out.

Was on holiday, as a student, and managed to get myself arrested and taken to jail. I made the phone call to try and get bailed out but it didn't happen and ended up locked up for 10 days.

I learnt a huge lesson about actions having consequences. I never thought I would be an inmate but I was there for 10 days, wearing black and white stripes and thinking about how much I hated it there and that I never wanted to end up back there. If I had of been bailed out that wouldn't have happened.

I remember having to go to court in a jail van cuffed and shackled in jail uniform and feeling really bad but the whole thing probably did me good - haven't been arrested since as would hate to go through all that again

Bailed a former close friend out once. Only got my money back by her parents hearing that she did not follow the deal we had, her father personally writing me a check and apologizing for the embarrassment their daughter caused their family. Young, dumb and too trusting in people, never again.

Nope. None of my friends or family have gotten themselves arrested so there was never a moment where I had to bail someone out. But if someone were to be thrown in jail, it will depend on what the crime is and if it is for some minor charge then I'll consider it. However, if it is for something big that has quite an exorbitant price on it, then forget it as they need to think about their crime and realize what they just did to get themselves into that mess.

Not to assume anything, but damn. Just damn.

I don't have aunts and uncles to call. Jail is a catchall, lock em up until their court date unless they can pay or if their crime is too big to pay for.

If the OP's family is going to pay bond, either they're real rich and real solid, or the offense wasn't worth even a weekend, and somebody goes to help. Either way, that's a solid family.

Is it true that in jail you have to use the bathroom in front of everyone, and you have to just group shower in the middle of the room, like animals or something?
