They probably need to find them and just kill them. The hostages will probably die either way.

Ill give them a couple hundred rounds of 5.56x45mm NATO right to the face. I'll buy the ammo myself, the Army can keep their bullets.

Dirty, filthy, evil terrorists! I wish those poor captives could be freed but...To pay the ransom is to give in to the terrorists. Give in once, how many more times will you give in?

Yet, two innocent people (though I must say, one is off his rocker), must die.

Sad situation.

Fucking ISIS!

If I were the minister I'd immediately go on the air and say "Go ahead and kill them. I never liked those fucks anyway. The guy on the left I have a suspicion was hitting on my wife, and the guy on the right has shifty eyes..."

.................................................

Perhaps it's best I'm not Prime Minister.

(honestly I agree that they shouldin't cave for the above reasons)

Yeah, I wonder the same thing...is there a war against ISIS yet or is the whole world just letting them do what they want and paying money whenever they want?

The United States is currently supplying and training rebel factions in Syria opposing both ISIL and Assad who have allegedly been thoroughly vetted and which are considered to be moderates with equipment, arms, training, and so on. Meanwhile, air strikes are being conducted against ISIL in both Syria and Iraq by US forces and some partners who have agreed to operate alongside them. President Obama has been insistent that there will be no US boots on the ground and that the strategic objective is to degrade and ultimately destroy ISIL (though what that means specifically is pretty malleable).

I'm pretty sure the "no boots on the ground thing" is about to be thrown out the window. Nearly 1000 soldiers from the 82nd are returning to Iraq to help local security forces take on ISIS.

I never believed it when he said it (an air war can't really work without boots on the ground, anyway), but it is what he said.

They are two fucking random people. You really think japan really give a shit? They are not going to pay the ransom. Why the fuck is ISIL still alive?Nuke them or something. Let the people suffering end and just kill everyone bad in that fucking country already. Do we as human really give a single fuck? I mean we would maybe remember this at least for 4 hours then forget about those two people. We are only capable of showing empathy for a few hours until we stop caring.

Have the war against ISIL already start or are we playing the chicken game?

This guy would make a great leader.

I don't think so. As cold as it sounds and feels to say, if you show terrorists they have the power to get loads of money out of people by using hostages, all it does is let them further their future operations more easily, and encourages other terrorists to do the same thing. You've probably got a bigger chance of saving more lives in the long run by not paying up now. It's a sad situation where there are losses either way, but the seemingly more inhumane option now means there will hopefully be less situations like this in the future.

This is what I think.

just think of all those shows/movies you've watched where the bad guy says "if you do A I'll let this person survive" and if the threatened guy does A and the bad guy still kills the person.. I mean it really isn't that far from what happens in real life.

Wow, I thought they only attacked America... It's sad enough to say this... But I don't think they should pay them. They're going to get killed anyways, and ISIS is really only doing this to get money.

I'd say give them the 200 million, but conceal a tracking device in several of the bills and take the hostages. Let them get away, then send in seal Team 6 to kill their top leaders (since Japan and the U.S. are allies), get them out of there, and send an air raid to destroy their base.

But of course, in a world dominated by media, this isn't going to happen.

Either way, Japan has a lose-lose situation. They will either lose the two citizens, or they''ll pay the ransom which would further fuel ISIS' cause...

They wouldn't be fueling ISIS's cause, they're backed by nigh infinite wealth patrons, it isn't about money for them, they want to assert power.

They're counting on Japan to not pay it. They just want to behead those two men. Even if it's paid, they'll probably kill them anyway just out of hatred.

There's also the problem that if Japan does pay the ransom, and let's say they get the two men back, safely. From here on out, Japanese citizens will be targeted for kidnappings all over the world, because terrorists, and criminal organizations will see an opportunity to get in on the money.

Then let's say that Japan pays the ransom for the first two guys, then maybe a family that was on vacation... But then refuse to pay any more ransoms. How will the families of subsequent kidnap victims respond to their government? "Why you saved those people, but not my relative? Was he less important?"

Yeah. It's a bad mess Japan is in, but it could get a hell of a lot worse if they pay the ransom.

Nope. Those two have no chance of getting out of there alive.
