The manga is much better than the show. It's funnier and there's a lot more content and detail. Definitely worth the price. I don't like spending money on manga but this is one is a huge exception.

WATAMOTE is a great anime, and I love it. And yes, the manga is still going on, in fact, I just picked up volume 6 yesterday. Will there be a second season? There should be, but there could be a second season. The only way a second season could happen is if the sales of the DVD/Bluray and the mangas go well, from what it says from the manga. I really would like a second season of WATAMOTE because so far the manga is great.

Well said! totally agree! I myself get very uncomfortable in social settings, especially if its new people or the opposite sex.

I loved the ending.

I don't really care what people say about the anime or its ending. It's a masterpiece anime depicting realism and parody.

Her situation is realistic; not every high schooler can get bunch of friends, y'know? Tomoko was a shy girl, and she became nervous when people started talking to her. She lived in her own world, created a bunch of imaginary scenarios, blamed everybody else for her misfortunes... but she's only got herself to blame.

I thought she was well characterised. I think the storyline might hit too close to home for some otaku, it hit home with me too... but that's why I like the anime even more... why would I hate an anime that represents my life... lol.

____

Most anime, the nerdy/lonely otaku suddenly get a bunch of friends for no reason (looking at you NGNL and SAO) other than because that's how the author wrote the story. But real life doesn't always go like that. Not every loner can get friends that easily... otherwise we wouldn't have loners in the first place... >_>;;

We try... and try to make friends... but we either chicken out... or get.... really uncomfortable in social settings... I can relate to tomoko so much. and that's all that matters. It's a unique anime for me that deserves more praise.

There have been different translations and I did recently order the official Bluray but have not been able to see it yet. The version I originally watched was from a cheap low quality Malaysian DVD which just had very crude broken english subtitles and didn't include any translation of sometimes important Japanese writing in various scenes.
The manga however is perfectly translated by Squaresoft and features expressions people commonly use in the modern English speaking world. It also includes translation notes in the back of the books for terms and elements western readers might not be familiar with.
