I don't see the appeal. I don't like first-person games generally - I'd rather have a bird's-eye view or at least be able to see the immediate surroundings of what I'm controlling. I'm also far more articulate speaking through text than I am in person, so I'd likely have trouble communicating with other players. VR isn't really for me.

I don't understand why people keep comparing SAO's technology to the current VR technology.

SAO's technology = deluding your brain into thinking you're really in another planet/environment

Current VR technology = it's just a projected image, but you're still aware that you're on planet Earth :-/ You can see a limited scope of vision... probably less than 180 degree. You can't smell or feel anything in the game itself.

Whereas in SAO's VR, you have a 360 degree vision field, you can touch and smell in that VR. That's the VR I want, to be honest. But I highly doubt it will be available within this century. As it's incredibly hard to get your research approved when it comes to putting probes into humans' brain. I mean even cloning a human is controversial... imagine sticking something into a human's brain. The science "ethics" committee would go ballistic.

Same with vacation. Fun to visit but I wouldn't live there.

Aside from inducing eyestrain & tension headaches, science now believes that prolonged use of things like Google Glass & Oculus Rift will lead to optical hallucinations. (As opposed to auditory hallucinations: hearing police sirens, whispering, bells, whistles, & music). But they also say it can reduce hallucinations in schizophrenic persons.

In a virtual world like SAO's yes, I would definitely consider living there or at least spending a large quantity of my time in a virtual world, especially if my physical body is still well maintained in someway or another.

What science exactly? You need to provide links to research for those types of claims rather than just saying "science believes 'x'"

Much like how the ouya failed, we would also need to develop games and simulations for the devices in order for them to be successful.

I'd say the ouya failed not because there weren't any games, but because it was a product developed without a market. Essentially no one wanted an ouya, not just because there weren't any games, but because there was no benefit to buying one. It didn't serve to provide something that there was demand for, and likewise it didn't create a new market because it just wasn't a very good idea in the first place.

Even beyond games, VR technology, especially VR like SAO's full dive system has huge potential applications in practically every sector of the economy from virtual tourism to medical treatments for both physical and psychological ailments.

-Possible? Yes.
- ETA? A Decade at best. If we are focused on such opportunities.
- Conflicts.
- Neuroscience (We have barely begun to understand the brain entirely as more reasearch is required)
- Prototype Medium (Development of a machine to be compatable for a general group of users even including ones that are distorted due to abnormal changes to the brain. There are patients currently utilizing B.I.C. (Brain Implant Chip) Technologies in regards to retaining memories etc.)
- Subject Testing (Having people volunteer for this project would be difficult as the results we are looking for could prove to be trying and almost inhuman as we are attempting to do something that some will, disagree with entirely. But that's science for you.)
- Project Funds (Now it isn't impossible however with the economy these days I can estimate such a project to kickstart itself with a couple billion but of course to clarify the amount required would be through usage of the proper equipment, software, programming languages etc. We can't really determine how much would it be because we lack the knowledge as to what to utilize for our benefits as to not entirely waste the funding for this project itself.)

There's just a lot of work and time as well as patience required for this to be successful. Hopefully, not many will perish for this or be lost in the Virtual World for its success.

I'd like to have VR, essentially take the Wii a step further in a way. AT least from what I remember of the Occulus Rift when it was first announced years ago. Wasn't it purchased by Facebook though? I totally can't wait to farm some crops for $5.00 a sq. ft.

I can't travel/take vacations/go to concerts anymore due to health issues. I can't wait till the day VR will allow me to travel virtually to any of the places I've wanted to see while never leaving my house. Where all senses can be stimulated well enough to make you feel you're there. They've already got sight and sound, they're working on touch and smell, how long til they conquer taste?
