I don't see why it matters. If your day is ruined because a guy sat with his legs open then dear god your life must be dull.

I think the issue is purely about space, the article I saw on the matter mentioned in in the same sentence as woman taking up room with their bags. This is not a women vs. men issue, it's about politeness and taking up more seating room than necessary. Americans could really learn about train etiquette from the Japanese, you don't see any manspreading or purse seating in Japan - people aren't even allowed to talk on their phones on trains. There are also seats reserved for elderly, injured, or pregnant people, and don't even get me started on how orderly the lines are. I think in general the Japanese are better at putting the good of the group over the whim of the individual, while in America we're really into letting people do what they want even if it's not good for those around them.

To sum up, go ahead and spread 'em if there's room, but if the train is crowded and there aren't enough seats it's rude to take up more space than necessary.

Its about space, but unless you are handicapped, pregnant or elderly,I see no reason for people to complain. Everyone knows that when it comes to public transportation, it is first come first when it comes to able bodied people.

It is about space, sure. But I'm talking about the feminists, (or people in general), who take it too far.

I've found talks of "manspreading" on TV news outlets and talk shows not too long ago. It's such a big deal that the media thinks it's a good topic for them.

Also, I think most of you are not getting my intention. I, myself, am not complaining. I would love to sit how I want, and where I want. It's the accusers who complain. Aside from the men who deliberately want to take up 2-3 seats as a joke, it's more comfortable to spread your legs a bit. Some feminists would see this as repulsive behavior, and thus, the media thinks it's juicy. Yet, she will sit down and also take up a seat or two regardless of any word with her purses and bags.

Men who sit like that are risking someone smacking their baggage accidentally .

I hate it when men sit like that... it's really douchebaggery of them, like i'm at the edge of my seat because of limited space. If I can sit with my legs together, no guys should have a reason to sit with their legs that far apart... (unless you have testicle tumour or something) :-/

I don't know what's more sad, the fact that you're singling out men in this situation or the fact that you're a dude shitting on men which makes you look like a bitch that's like " Hey girls i'm on your team, guys suck, am i right ? high five"

Another issue femenazi's made up while sitting on tumblr all day while these angry jobless females watch silly gossip channels that also talk about this 'being a problem'. I think we should make an appointment where all these morons can unite in a certain area, bait them by saying 'watch this man get tortured' as they all flock to this area, bomb the entire area.

I think it's actually insulting. There are people fighting over serious problems, and then there's one person who's like 'What we should really be fighting for is men always sitting with their legs closed, right guys?' It sounds like more of a parody than something serious.
