Ive noticed a huge increase in anime focused towards the females lately. Is this by design or is it just me? I have like 3 anime on my que for this season, and about 5 that update weekly that I have no desire to watch. More action, blood, comedy please and less sailor moon! If any agrees or think im crazy please feel free to rant

what?

things like assassin classroom, garo, gundam, Tokyo ghoul, aldnoah, and death parade are not aimed at females :-/

the fact of the matter is, 80% of anime each season is aimed at male tweens or horny 30 somethings men.

To be honest you sound kind of like a jerk naming your thread "Lack of Content" but then starting it by talking about a "huge increase" before getting to your point--that in fact this post isn't about a lack of content really but about a perceived deficit in content that you personally like and not just that, but blaming it on and bitching about the fact that content that women and girls might prefer exists.

Now there's nothing wrong with saying you'd like more of the kind of the shows you like. But really, is there any need when doing so to pull out accusations of "pandering" (in your subtitle) and suggest that it's somehow more right if the industry were to deprive the female audience of shows they might prefer, and which are making the industry money?

Whether or not this is actually happening, I can't say because I haven't been a heavy anime consumer for all that long, so that's all I'm going to say for now.

Also, I'm not sure why you posted this in the Advice, Info, Recommendations forum because nowhere in your post did you ask for advice, info or recommendations, so I've gone ahead and moved it to the Anime forum where discussion can continue.

I think less than 10% of the shows airing are aimed at a female audience. I mean we have like 5 or 6 harem animes (directed at men) airing at the same time as it is.

There has been an increase in the amount of anime aimed towards woman lately however most anime shows still are aimed towards men. So I find your claims a bit ridiculous...

I speak of animes that crunchyroll is airing at the moment, and not just anime in general. Of course most anime are aimed at men, but there are so many good ones airing now that crunchyroll has yet to pick up. So bringing back old anime like GTO and golden boy to fill the gap of air time? My point is it feels like CR is kind of floating right now on good anime not from 1990. And the so called Harem anime and girl bands falls into the girl category imo, so as of right now there is a gap in the category of anime I listed. Lets focus on bringing more of those back. Examples from this week alone: Your Lie in April, sailor moon, seekano, cute high defense earth club, gourmet girl grafiti, bonjour sweet, wake up girls. Meanwhile there are some really good animes for the action goers like cross ange, one piece, parasyte, jojo and a few others. My point is the balance of anime has absolutely been shifting towards the spectrum of the market which is not the largest or in most demand. Im sure the views per show support my opinion as well. For the one up top that thinks this is not in the right section, these are much needed changes because like you i pay to watch CR and if I wanted to just have 4 anime to watch then I would go the free route like millions of other people, hence i post a suggestion :P. I recommended the site to a friend this week who had the exact same opinion and decided not to subscribe because of this after using his free pass.

Most anime picked up by Crunchyroll this season are aimed towards men, yes even the harem ones, or better said, specially the harem ones.

I don't know where are you from but if you live in US or Canada then you can watch on Funimation most anime that weren't picked up by Crunchyroll.

Good recommendation akai, I think I will be changing my subscription over to that site. Seems like it is aimed more towards my personal style of shows.

...I think our ideas of shows targeted to women are a bit different. To me, most of the shows you listed appeal to both genders.

You're welcome.

BTW, Winter is generally the weakest season in my opinion. The shows that I like use to be released in Spring and Fall.

lol I don't think Your Lie in April is aimed at females, and if it is well...I think it's amazing as a guy. Why not actually watch it and see for yourself.

This thread kinda pisses me off. Do you know how many animes are actually aimed towards females??? It's very rare and that we have a couple that I actually like. It's awesome! Usually all I see are the moe harems aimed for males. A lot of anime that's styled moe looks like it aimed for females but in all reality is actually aimed for men. You can go to hulu to watch anime with out paying for plus (I think) and they have a huge selection, there's always funimation and tons of anime on here that is aimed for guys. Even if it came out a couple years ago. Point is, why complain about the increase of female shows when there are ALREADY tons of animes for males.

Also.... I don't know exactly how it works but crunchyroll has to get anime approved or licensed for them to show it. They can't just pick out everything they want and show it. (Though I could be wrong)
