Google owns both chromebook and youtube, so no matter what they'll always make sure their services works best in collaboration with each other.

But Chrome have changed how it reads websites recently, so it may be a problem related to the fact that web hosts and web admins haven't gotten used to how chrome now handles websites. Either way there's pretty much nothing we can help with over here if you don't have a error code or something. If the problem persist then google is the best tool to use to troubleshoot your problems

The thing about YouTube is it uses HTML 5 and crunchy roll uses flash. Even with some optimizations with loading the HTML processor will be the same.

Youtube uses webM, a technology developed by google for google products. The problem isn't even about crunchyroll in this case anyway, since OP said "had trouble with video playback on all sites" therefore including youtube CR and pretty much every other website

Google originally pushed for it because they wanted a flexible replacement for flash player. However the actual webM encoding can work just as well on google products as it does on any other product, google just puts more money into improving the speed of it on chrome. The format is being worked on and developed by Amazon, Cisco, Google, Intel, Microsoft, Mozilla and Netflix because they all benefit from having one standard.

Currently, there are 3 supported video formats for the <video> element: MP4, WebM, and Ogg:
Browser MP4 WebM Ogg
Internet Explorer YES NO NO
Chrome YES YES YES
Firefox YES YES YES
Safari YES NO NO
Opera YES (from Opera 25) YES YES

I work in a type of help desk and assuming anything from the user is a bad thing. I've had people who couldn't turn their computer on because they didn't have it plugged in. So its crazy to assume that he uses youtube without stating he uses youtube.
