Hey guys, the licenses for our MBC America catalog titles will expire January 31st at 11:59pm PST, so if you guys have been thinking about marathoning that one K-Drama, now's the time!

Coffee Prince, anyone?

But wait, what if there are just too many episodes to finish?? Well, fret not, these titles will not be gone from the Crunchyroll family! You can still watch them through Crunchyroll's sister site, SoompiTV. SoompiTV is the new home for these titles and where you can continue to feed your K-Drama addiction, with a collection of simulcast titles that are hot in Korea right now!

So the new reward for All Access Members was to take away more value for having a subscription?

Edit: I posted this below originally but this will help people to see which shows they still have a chance to watch...

I've compiled a list since Crunchyroll won't do it of all the titles that will be disappearing due to license expiring, along with how many episodes you have to watch here:

http://pastebin.com/ED0zNjbL

There's 107 drama shows that will be gone as soon as the license expires.
That will leave around 25 Japanese shows, 14 KBS shows, 5 or 6 Chinese dramas that aren't really good at all. And a few movies (that also aren't - to put it midly - exactly riveting)

^ Thiss.. First the CR Manga thing, now this.. And here I was thinking that even though there was no Black Friday deal the All-Access Membership was still worth it. Hopefully CR announces some new content soon.

i went back to only anime access. since they started doing this. if i want to watch drama there are other much better options
such as dramafever. ads on vids but you can watch for free most of the dramas. only 1-2 are premium only, viki is still there free too specially if you got adblock lol

Losing one title is probably too early for a lot of doomsaying concerning All Access.

But they are in sort of a weird situation at this point. I would say that it would be in Crunchyroll's best interest to just homogenize all premium memberships into the anime price. But it would be sort of complicated for all access members who have already paid. You can't gift them with Soompi membership time since they have an entirely different account system from Crunchyroll's (as well as limited device support), and it would probably also be too difficult to extend extra time to their anime memberships by 30-40%(or whatever the extra cost of all access would amount to).

I don't know. They stated in the manga thread last week that All Access will be getting some good things in the future. But that's sort of a meaningless statement without any details. I tend to take statements like that with a grain of salt :P

I'm not an all access member and don't plan on becoming one. Nor do I even like K-Drama. So these issues aren't super relevant to my own Crunchyroll experience. I just don't see a point though in having a membership tier exist solely for the sake of posterity. And right now that sort of is where All Access seems to be heading.

One title? Losing the MBC licence means that over 100 shows get lost from the site. They're the biggest part of the drama section.
All that will be left will be the few Japanese dramas that are there, some movies, and a few random Chinese and KBS dramas.

Oh shit, you're right! I guess this may be a bigger deal than I thought.

With this, I have to wonder if the "new reward" won't involve some type of complementary subscription to SoompiTV.

The "All Access" pass looks like a pretty bad deal now.

I hope something like that will come about but I'm not going to hold my breath with the way everyone who has an All Access subscription is being treated right now. They may or may not gift the people who are left with a 30 day pass on their sister site, but will that really matter after they've alienated the people who were here for the drama and the manga too in the first place? Meh.
What about the people who've downgraded their subscriptions, would they get that pass too? It just looks like a big mess right now.

Paying almost double for less content that seems to be shrinking must seem like a great deal...

To be honest, it is a lot of shows going in one go but unless you were in the US or Canada, you never got them anyway so the rest of the world isn't getting any less value for money.

If they really only have around 50 drama titles to offer beginning February, it would make sense to do away with the "Anime Only" pass and upgrade everyone to "All Access" until they have more in the catalog. I think that was the reasoning behind making manga available to everyone.

I'm only speaking for myself, but 95% of the reason I became an all-access member in the first place was for the manga, not the drama. I did think, what the hell, I can give some drama a try, and I have about half-a-dozen of them in my queue, versus 90+ anime and 20+ manga. At this point, these announcements of extending manga to anime members and dramas disappearing are starting to leave me a bit cold towards the whole experience. I'm fully paid up until October of this year, and for that I don't think it's unreasonable to expect the service to continue exactly as it has been...namely, 24/7 high quality access to an ever-expanding catalogue of anime, manga, and drama, on the device(s) of my choice.

I should point out, too, that I'm not interested in any sister sites, or brother sites, or what have you, and I hope the announcement of all-access 'surprises' comes sooner rather than later.

I asked a while back and Soompi replied they had no intentions of making an all access for both sites, of course that was just one individuals reply and their opinions may have changed/ are changing with the Black Friday situation and now to the realization that providing some Jdrama isn't worth the all access. I am not sure if CR will ever offer Soompi passes. Though with the money saved from downgrading to an Anime membership I used to open a student account on Dramafever. $5 a month and their lineup is huge!

No, you're speaking for me too. The only reason I opted for all-access was it cost the same as anime+manga for a full year and I could check out some of the dramas as well. Now, less than two months later, they dump most of the value for all-access members. They better have something damned good lined up, otherwise they should offer a pro-rated refund for all the yearly subscribers who are getting screwed here.
