Just finished this manga, sorry to graveyard this thread but it was so powerful I felt like I had to comment. Rarely will I read a manga and have it do more to me than just make me laugh. Just like a roller coaster, it isn't about the start or the ending, but what an amazing ride.

This whole thread is for people who have finished the manga already. If you don't want spoilers please exit the thread now as I won't be spoiler tagging everything.

So I just finished the manga and it felt really bittersweet. I thoroughly enjoyed this manga and while it was a good place to end, I can't help wishing it had gone on for longer. Some stuff just never got resolved like when Nishimaya was trying to say "I love you" to him. God that part was so precious. It makes me sad that it was never really brought up again before the end.

I'm so excited to finish this. I hope I'm not left unsatisfied, although it sounds like I will be. :/

The ending leaves things to the reader, hence open ending. The door was pretty significant as well. I basically interpreted as Shouko and Shouya opening a door to new possibilities, to new chances. Holding hands they walked through that door to a new life, one that they would share together. It also signifies that they completely accept themselves. their past, and each other implicitly. Its very well a happy ending. I am pretty sure they will make it a lot more conclusive in the movie to help people who lack understanding.

Yes! This!

I would have liked a kiss, but the "Stop your flirting!!" comment from Nao and Nao's yuri baiting comments about the ring were plenty of romance. Walking through the door to adulthood hand-in-hand, ready to face the future together... Yeah, that's a good ending!

I really can't wait for the movie!

A part of me almost always wants more from the stories I read, but the ending implied what was next and I can imagine everything working out so I was happy with it.

It felt like the manga got cut and so the ending was rushed instead of taking the time to reach the full conclusion with the characters and their feelings fully flushed out.

I loved this manga, and i feel it did was it set out to beautifully, even if a lot of people might get mad at the lack of closure in the end. Absolutely watching the movie.

It might feel like that, but they announced the ending months and months in advance, so that isn't actually what happened.

I personally thought it was a good ending, though, as I said before, a kiss (or confession) would have been nice, but there was no doubt that they were moving forward together.

I think that an ideal addition to the ending would have been Shouko starting work as a third stylist at Shoya's mom's salon, with her mother and sister coming in to have their hair done and Mom requesting Shoya as her stylist, showing just how much she has accepted him. (His mom could then feign feeling hurt and grab a beer so she can chat up her best friend while the other two work and she looks after the grand-kid.)

But that would have just been icing... The cake is what is important and this was one of the most delicious, satisfying cakes I've had in a long, long time!

Maybe the anime film will have an epilogue ending for the manga... with my imagination I'm saying they end up getting together probably even married.
