Yes. I also think of "read-the-manga" endings as bad endings.

110% yes it does. Doesn't matter how good everything leading up to the ending was if the ending itself is a stinking heap of shite.

Like eating a really delicious meal then finding out it was made from your pet rabbit. F***ing ruined.

End it favourably or not at all.

Agreed. The ending is what you end up remembering most, so a bad (in terms of quality) ending will even make the greatest Anime leave a horrible taste in your mouth. Two famous cases: Berserk and Neon Plan Your Budget Better, which had me ignoring both series for years, just because the ending pissed me off so much.

Absolutely. The ending of Oreimo absolutely ruined the whole show for me. Oh Kuroneko, you deserved so much better.

Yes, to me the destination is just as important as the journey itself. This is exactly why I dislike shows like Gundam Seed Destiny; the show was actually quite enjoyable, but in my opinion, was ruined by the last arc.

It depends on the goal of the series.

If they've spent the season leading up to the final episode building towards some grande finale or huge mystery reveal or super "feels" moment and they blow it then yes, I will rate the series poorly. If a story puts all its focus on how it ends then falls flat on that ending it is difficult for me to forgive.

If, however, the series doesn't have that goal but instead reveals itself as it goes along, telling an excellent story with enjoyable characters leading to a finale that is as predictable as the sun rising then I will rate the series based on what has come before the finale even though the finale itself isn't surprising.

Ending is paramount. A bad ending certainly does ruin an anime for me - which was certainly the case for fate/zero which is why I recommend that you don't watch the original fate/stay night before watching fate/zero.

A bad ending can really ruin an anime for me. For me, whether an anime is good or not depends on whether or not I can watch the anime again. A perfect example of this for me is Guilty Crown. For me, the first cour was great. The second cour just made it into something I can't watch again. The ending was really the icing on the cake. The MC loses so much to save the world. And, in the end, he is severely maimed and living a very lonely and depressing life. I just can't bring myself to watch it again.

Hmm. It depends, if the anime was excellent throughout the season and the ending is subpar I am ok with that. I understand that it can be difficult to close a series out.

On the other hand. If the anime was a chore to watch and the ending really doesn't wrap things up I may be a little salty.

I hate those "it was all a dream" and "flashback" endings.

aldnoah zero's a good example. though it hasn't actually ended it yet... but the ending of first season left a bad taste in my mouth.

I can remember a series for things other than the ending, so an ending won't normally kill a series for me. If it does, the ending must be really terrible.

That being said, the ending of an anime does more to its rating than most other episodes for me, so a show that's normally a 5 star show could be brought down to 4 (or even 3.5) just because the last episode or two trolled the fans.
