It does for me at least. Though I'm usually okay with most ending. I've only had one show's ending I really hate and that was Magikano.

I'm extremely picky on the endings... If it isn't a sure happy ending then I don't even start to watch a show... and lately they just all seem to be depressing... I can't even make it thru to the end, and when they add so much drama it usually leaves room for only one type of ending bitter.

Anytime I ask about happy ending anime I always get some jackass suggest school days like I don't know what that one is about.

Like it was said a few times previously- the ending is paramount.
On the flip side, a good ending can make a crappy series worthwhile- anyone remember Blood C? Utterly lacklustre up until those last two eps which just blew everything out of the water in the most gory, mindf**kingly satisfying way.

It can. Biggest failure for me was So I can't Play H! Not even the final episode, just the last two minutes dropped the show from pretty good to junk imo. I was thinking about buying the disks until I hit the ending.

Every anime ends. But not every anime truly begins.

All I can say... Soul Eater.
Brought my rating for it from a 8-9 to about a 4 and lower.

For me, it really depends on the show, and how bad the "bad ending" really is.

On the one hand, take a show like His and Her Circumstances (Kare Kano). I knew going in that the show was only covering a small percentage of the story told in the manga. So yes, it annoyed me that the last few episodes were crap, and that the ending left off in a bad place; but I had generally enjoyed the adaptation up until that point. Besides, I had read the manga and knew how the story continued, so it certainly didn't ruin the experience for me.

On the other hand, as many have pointed out, an ending like Oreimo's can sour the whole experience.

The difference, I think, is the sense of finality. Is there more story to be told--even if it isn't being told right now, in this format? If so, I can be forgiving. Otherwise.. not so much.

Yeah, bad endings do ruin some shows entirely for me. As someone has mentioned before, Valvrave is a big winner in that department. Also, Brynhildr in the Darkness, which someone has also previously mentioned. Let me also stress the common fact that most shows with terrible endings already in the final third or so tend to be on a downward slope. The original Fullmetal Alchemist series from 2003 seems to fit that bill. I don't intend to say that bad endings turn series into shit. I might very well have enjoyed watching them, as is the case with all three listed above. However, I probably never will watch them again. Once is enough at that point.

I think a lot feels the ending matters

To me it does as well...

If I read the manga already and the anime ends the same as the manga then I can tolerate it if the ending is bad.

But if the anime is an original anime doing really good during the course and then hits a bad note at the end, it will annoy me .

The ending has to go well with the genre and story of the anime will feel flat in the end

Well it depends, a bad ending can't ruin everything that was great before it forever, but it can in the moment .

Reminds of this post from some over obsessed (pathetic) fangirl about the Naruto ending.

I’m so upset right now, I just deleted everything Narusaku related in my computer, I tore up all my narusaku drawings that were hanging on my wall for years now, I threw away all my naruto manga & DVD collection into the garbage, I ripped apart all my posters…I literally wanted to burn everything instead but I live in apartments so I obviously can’t start a fire. I’m not bashing or anything I just feel like all of this was pointless…completely pointless. I wasted so much money…so much time… I can never get back…
