Magical girl genre. Do you prefer the old ones that were lighthearted or the new ones that are more dark.

You may, MAY enjoy Angelic Layer, if you can find it.

Is it good? I've always heard so-so things about it so have never gone through the trouble of finding it. I like CLAMP but have been told Angelic Layer isn't exactly their greatest work.

I'm generally fine with watching anything so long as it has a solid story and isn't the typical "fight per episode actual plot line strewn throughout in teeny tiny chunks" deal. I don't usually watch a lot of mahou shoujo stuff these days because of that, and if I do it's limited to the shorter series because they tend to draw themselves out.

The Angelic Layer manga is pure comedy and it's one of my favourites from Clamp actually. Somewhere after CCS and Clover. The anime takes a different route, it starts off as a comedy but takes a turn for the more dramatic side later on. I liked seeing all the angel battles animated, those are really awesome and I did finish the series, it's okay imo. What personally annoys me about it is that they break the continuity with Chobits which does exist in the manga. But these are the complaints of a Clamp fangirl. I'd say check out the anime if the concept interests you. If only so you can see the glory that is Iichan!

WIXOSS isn't mahou shoujo. It's a card game anime.

Spoilered for off-topic.

The real things are terrifying, but in monster girl form they're love :3

It's 26 episodes, and it has story kinda through out it. I think a lot of it is fighting, but there's enough to keep your interest. I mean Card Captor Sakura was a card an episode anime, and this, if I remember correctly, had more story interspersed.

It's probably the least CLAMP-like CLAMP project, hence some of the lackluster reviews. It's not overly deep, and it's different.

Basically the main character gets an "angel" which is the same as a "doll" that is birthed from an egg, as a christmas present. The doll is highly customizable, and they're used to compete in battles, "the Angelic Layer" thing... (my memory is hazy). In the battles, her doll is controlled via her mind, and I can't remember why but she's battling to get to the top of a tournament. I think it has something to do with her parents? anyway, on the flip side, the people who created the angelic layer system are also using the technology to help develop prosthetics for those who are disabled, and in the grand scheme of things.

I think this tech was the precursor to the tech in Chobits, kinda like how Accel World figured into SAO. It's just.... different. Robotics;Notes also reminds me somewhat of it and Accel World, in that sort of way that you know it's not Chaos;Head or Stein's Gate, but it's tied into the universe in that weird sort of way...

Hence why I'm hesitant to recommend it. It's not the best thing ever, but it's good for what it is. I don't really know how else to describe it except like that.

EDIT: hahahah.. I was talking PreTear, not PreCure Sometimes the names are easy to confuse.

I was kinda thinking the same. It was kinda/sorta a precursor to the dark magical girl thing. Plus for those who haven't checked it out, It totally did the reverse harem thing before reverse harems were called such.

There's so much anime out there these youngin's don't know about.

I'll put it in my "maybe, someday" list but you did help me decide what to watch next: Robotics;Notes. I never realized Stiens;Gate had alternative/related stories.

Annnnd, I'm done hi-jacking the thread.

Back to more mahou shoujo discussions! To which I have nothing further to add...

They're not related. Sorry. It's the same manga artists or writer or something from what I understand. They all have a unique feel, an unique setting, and yet stylistically are incredibly related. People will watch the other two, but then get to Robotics;Notes, and be all like "WTF?" because it's not what they expected.

I hinted at it before, but I'm curious;

Are "Dark magical girl" shows targeted at even remotely the same audience as 'classic' magical girl shows?

Almost all of the new ones seem male-market focused to me, so maybe it's a bigger trend in anime.

The anime, I looked into reading the manga and found primarily bad reviews so I passed on it. Have you read it? Should I change my mind?

I had the manga recommended to me over the anime, but I did not find it particularly engrossing, though the artwork has its points.

Hmm... not a glowing review, I think I'll keep it on the back burner
