After looking at the internet for a while (quite dangerous, I must say) I've come upon this gallery:
http://vashperado.deviantart.com/gallery/45976993/88

And now I really wanna find a space anime with spaceships. Yes, spaceships. Not mechas. I know, crazy.

So, any ideas? Y'know, other than Cowboy Bebop, which I know about?

I also found Galilei Donna, which kinda had spaceships.. Except that they never actually went to space, so they were more like airships. But the feel of the anime was just about right.

Really, I've been searching for a long time (a long one!) for an anime with the exploration feel of.. Well, space (exploration). I think it was brought on by multiple things, but mainly Star Citizen.

Ever since I was able to go into free-flight and just fly around in mai spaceship (destroying my computer in the process), I suppose. And the PU is going to be in open beta (alpha?) this year! So I really want to get into that feeling. Sure, I could just watch Star Trek, or something, but I think this kind of anime would be awesome. Don't you?

EDIT: I'd like to find anime that focus more on exploration (y'know, of space). Or, at least, keep that feel. Certainly a lot of good suggestions, but some aren't really what I'm trying to find here. Thus the reasoning behind specifying spaceships (not mechas). A mecha just wouldn't make sense, exploring far-off space.
As a note, mechas are fine, as long as the show centers more around the spaceships.

Hmm, how about Space Brothers?

Edit: It is set in the future.

Ahh, forgot to mention I knew that one, too. Thanks, though.

You didn't forget Dandy did you? My serious answer would be Space Battleship Yamato 2199.

Pretty much any macross show(SDF, SDF 2, Macross 7, Plus, Frontier, Zero)...

although I'd say that SDF, Macross 7, and Frontier are the most "space" heavy... not sure about SDF 2 but I think it's also space heavy...

Plus and Zero... while they have space ships they pretty much stay on a planet surface most of the time.

SDF = super dimensional fortress

I'm not entirely sure what you're looking for, but here's some spaceships:

Space Battleship Yamato 2199.

Banner of the Stars and Crest of the Stars.

And if you're fine with old school, Legend of the Galactic Heroes.

I'm not sure if this is exactly what you're looking for, but I found it entertaining. Don't be too put off by the title

Also there's the latest from the director of Cowboy Bebop "Space Dandy" which is available on other sites. Much sillier in tone though.

Are they still working on the new anime interpretation of Legend of the Galactic Heroes?

What, no mention of Tylor?

'cus Azalyn <3

Outlaw Star's good, but let's just forget that Angel Links exists, ok? The world would be better for it.

Starship Girl Yamamoto Yohko is just silly though.

Cool. I'll look at (and probably watch) all these. Dunno how I couldn't find them before.

Note that sound quality is of utmost importance in my enjoyment of anime, behind the plot (and, y'know, personal preference). Art takes last there, but it's still pretty important for me.
Older anime is certainly a thing.. I might like it if the story is particularly good, but other than that..

You might want to give Gundam 0080 a shot too. It's short and focuses more on the citizens of the colony and the impact war has on them. They barely show mobile suits.
