The Witch's war (subject to change)

The Witch's war is a original fiction/Roleplay between Suzumeakihana and I. We're both working and collaborating on this idea as we go, so feedback and comments on the story would be very appreciated. And we're both hoping to improve our writing (or at least i am) so any help on that would be appreciated on that as well.

Background

The world has been at war with itself for over fifty years. Witches and Warlocks hunt and destroy human societies, mystery surrounds the uprising of the new ruler of the benevolent magical force, and the civilian population is in a chaotic state after the war starts. The government instituted a force known as A.M.F or the anti-magical force, but the people and Witches alike have dubbed them the nickname, Hunters. Hunters hunt and exterminate magical threats within the domestic and sometimes foreign lands. Though, within the last month, Witch activity within east Brokendale has significantly increase, and the activity has been expanding to other areas surrounding it as well. The hunters are on the move, but what exactly was cause the increase of witch activity? The hunters within squad 359 were about the shortly find out.

Other Information

*The time period is somewhere between the 1600 and 1700's.
*Witches and Warlocks have a small set of shared abilities, but most are more unique to them. Most are born with their base abilities, but they devolve and evolve along side the person as they grow. So, lots of varying sets of skills and magical users.
*They can be up to twenty people in a Hunter's squad, officially at least.
*To join the ranks of the Hunters, one must either be tested by Hunter elders at their HQ or be taken under as an apprentice by an existing member. Though, an apprentice must be evaluated by an elder within the first two years of them being taken under their mentors wing in order to be recognized as an official hunter.
*Other information and the character list can be added too at anytime, so watch them for updates on new things

With a lack of hope, Hinami leaned against one of the tree’s higher branches and looked down at the ground below.

She had been chased by the witch hunters earlier while searching for food and due to not being able to grab anything or eat since the previous night was left fatigued and starving.

Thankfully none of the hunters were around anymore, so she could at least relax about that. It was one less item on her list of things to worry about for the time being.

Her stomach growled. Of course hunger would definitely be the next thing she marked off the list.

His foot steps quietly crept along the forest floor, his dark clothing and blending in with the mist of nightfall. In his hand was his trusty crossbow. The night had blinded him a bit, even with his adjusting eyes to the moonlight, but his nose was on the scent. The scent of a witch was present, and it was close. Kurta was known for his nose, most even gave him the nickname, sniffer. The scent he was currently stalking was close to a spring breeze or a sweet rose. He was unsure of the scent, considering what he's seen of their nature, but he continued nonetheless. As soon as the scent seemed its strongest, his foot fell hard and snapped a laying branch. "shit." he murmured to himself, standing still.

Hearing the noise, Hinami's words mimicked those of Kutra's, only more..polite.

Looking down at him scared, she saw his form and quickly got up. She started moving away from him, tree branch by tree branch with renewed energy from adrenaline.

Kurta's eyes darted up, seeing a shadow among the tree branches move. Deciding it must be the witch, he quickly took aim with his crossbow and fired. Sadly, it missed, but it flew right past her head, slamming into a nearby tree. Giving chase, Kurta ran after the shadow trying to keep it in sight, and was reloading his crossbow for another shot.

Freaking out more, Hinami ran through the trees faster.

Spotting a nearby branch with a hive dangling from it, she ran towards and kicked it down at the hunter and quickly ran a couple branches more and climbed to a higher branch then what she ended up on.

Due to the darkness, Kurta wasn't able to see the hive till the last second, but had still managed to push off with his leg and hit the ground rolling to dodge it. feeling a bit of a scrape from the ground, he pushed on. Kurta had lost sight of the shadow moving among the trees, but he had yet to lose the scent of her. His legs running at a full sprint to catch up to her, he tried to be as quiet and as swift as he could. Though, the breaking of twigs and bushes moving was apparent.

"He's too persistent," Hinami thought. She climbed higher among the trees and moved farther into the forest, trying to make things as confusing as she possibly could. She moved deeper and doubled back where the hunter would go past her.

When she was satisfied that he wasn't there anymore, she stopped and tried to catch her breath.

His eyes were blinded by the darkness, his sense of smell was the only thing guiding him as though the darkness of the deep forest. Suddenly the smell of the witch had shifted and started heading back the way they had just come. "You're not getting away from me." Kurta grunted as he stood there, catching his breath. The scent was faint, but he slowly followed it again. Kurta was planning on stalking her once again, hoping to get the jump on her instead of running around. "one game has ended...but another has begun." He thought, creeping closer to the witch with every moment.

Sitting on one of the branches after catching her breath, she sighed. "Now that he's gone, I can at least rest."

Pulling a locket and pocket watch combination from her pocket, she inspected it. "I'm glad it held up."

She smiled at the jewelry and opened it up. The time was roughly ten minutes after eleven and, after looking up from the time and at a picture of a dark haired man and little girl that bore resemblance to her, she shed a few tears. "Why couldn't we have stayed together, Altair?"

Feeling more sadness and a bit of bitterness start to overwhelm her, she quickly shoved the locket back into her pocket and hugged her knees to her chest trying to stop the tears. "I shouldn't think of this right now.. It's the last thing I need."

It didn't take Kurta too long to catch back up to the witch after she had stopped on the branch. His footsteps where nearly silent as they moved among the forest's underbrush, his hands moving to aim his trusty crossbow. Though, his eyes soon caught a glimpse of a reflection. the moon light was hitting her face, a small bit of reflective light was shining off her face. "is she....crying?" Kurta whispered to himself.

The sight had baffled Kurta, he was at a lost for words. He'd never seen a witch, a witch of all things, cry. The most emotion he ever saw from a witch was their anger and their burning hate for humans. "Seeing a witch cry... was almost like seeing a unicorn." Kurta thought. He started to lower his crossbow, staring in awe as he carelessly stood up from his position among the bushes. Kurta stood in plain sight of the witch, staring ever curiously at her.

Not seeing an end to her tears, Hinami wept, and when she saw a glint, looked up with a startled look of alarm. Swearing it could've been from an arrow, she quickly stood and used a spell with one of her last bits of magic to see in the dark.

Down below she could make out the face of the hunter looking up at her in wonder. He had lowered his crossbow, but it would only be a matter of time before he decided to shoot. Deciding now was the time to run, she turned and tried to run to the next branch, only to lose her footing and fall from the tree.

Without enough magic left within her to cast a flight or teleportation spell, a high pitched scream of terror left her lips as her body hurled downwards.

If it weren't for the moon light to illuminate the witches descent, Kurta may not of noticed until it was too late. He didn't know why, but he felt the need to help her. Despite previous witch encounters, Kurta felt the need to help this one. Leaping off with one foot, he made his way into a sprint. Running to catch the witch as she made her descent, he held out her arms to catch her. Kurta felt a warm body enter his arms as he turned and caressed it as he hit the forest floor. His back stung for a moment with pain, quickly letting go of her his sense for air returned. He began panting a bit, trying to catch his breath.

Looking down at the hunter, Hinami was frozen in fear and surprise. Not once had any hunter ever tried to save her in these past couple weeks. They've only ruthlessly hunted her down and she was sad to say that some of them ended up dying in their pursuit. It wasn't that she wanted to kill them, it was just that it was an accident or she had no other choice.

The surprise slowly went away with more fear as it's replacement. Still frozen, she could only squeak out a thank you before she found the ability to move and scrambled off of him.

Falling back, she scooted further away worried that he'd attack her, especially since she was defenseless at the moment. She hoped that he couldn't tell. "P-Please. Please don't-"

She felt a pine cone prick one of her wounds and she gasped a bit in pain.

Kurta slowly sat up from the ground, looking at the witch. He lacked the intent he had held earlier for her, he just sat up and continued to catch your breath. His eyes watching the witch, but soon sighed. "will you stop panicking, I'm not going to hurt you."

Kurta went to pull out some bandages from his bag. He seemed much calmer and collected now, which kinda confused him. This behavior toward a witch,... it was truly peculiar. Though, to him, She was peculiar as well.
