So I recently bought an iPad air 2 and I hate how when I load a video there's two huge black lines on the top and bottom of the video. I feel like that is a waste and it should be full screen like it is on pc or iPhones or assuming,y other phones. So what's your opinion on tabets solely for viewing anime or reading manga even. I feel like the iPad mini would be great for watching and reading if the videos took up the entire screen.

The Samsung Galaxy tablets are probably the best for watching/reading media in general. They display type they use makes it so the blacks are actually black instead of the really dark grey you see on some screens. The colors are great too.

It's probably a good thing your iPad is using black bars, since the alternative would be to cropped so you wouldn't be able to see the full image. If someone was to buy a tablet solely for watching anime and reading manga, I would probably recommend the Amazon Fire HDX 7'', since its cheap, lightweight, and has a 16:9 screen so you won't have the black bars. A more expensive option would be the Galaxy Tab S, but it's not worth it if you're only using it for watching anime.

The reason for that is that the Ipad has 4:3 screen ratio. If you watch some old television show it will take up the whole screen. However everything new is 16:9. Movies are usually 2.35:1 though.

Pretty much any tablet out there aside from the iPad is going to have either a 16:9 or a 16:10 screen ratio.

I use my kindle fire hdx for anime and manga, only catch is there is no crunchyroll app in the kindle store. it is the perfect size for reading manga! anime looks great as well. you just have to sideload the crunchyroll app from the google play store if you want it.

Do they make tablets 20+ inches in size? :P

I have two tablets -- a Galaxy Tab 2 and a WinBook. Both are equally capable of playing anime. The WinBook has a micro HDMI port though, which means I'll be taking it to A-Kon instead of the Galaxy since I can connect it to a TV.

Native resolution for the WinBook is 1280x800 -- 16:10 ratio, so it would have a letterboxed effect even with 720p content. I forget what the Galaxy Tab 2 is.

My archos gamepad 2 - viewing angles and colours are awesome, it's more comfortable to hold for longer times, and it's cheap :-)

The battery life isn't anything to be happy about, but I really like my Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 edition). The graphics and sounds look really great when watching anime!
