Ho ho hold up. I have 5Mbs and 1 Mbps, that is fast for Latin America.
Yet speed does not make the internet alone, is patience ,I can have 5mbps but with auto downloads....

Holy crap, you Americans really have a slow base broadband connection speed. I feel bad for you!
lack of regulations and monopolies have stifled growth and progress.did you know that is illegal in about 20 u.s states for independent companies to start their own isp's?

I didn't know that, well then... that explains why the us have such a shitty internet. The problem in my country is the exact opposete of the us, we have too many ISP's so you never know who is good and who isn't and you have to do tons and tons of research before you make a contract with one.

My current speed.

That is similar to mine depending on the time of day:

For me I pay for 75/75 for a total of $125.99 (not sure what you plan costs but if we did a how much we pay for every Mb/s download we pay for you may win there) for the plan it self (which includes TV and phone) though when you take into account the tax's and other things it goes up to $200+.

Add to that that my download speed drops to about 10Mb/s at around 5PM EST and that my upload speed stays about were it is I have not had any serious issues other then that annoying drop in download speed which can just be blamed on everyone in my area get home at around 5PM.

DAAAAAAMN! That's a expensive subscription cost for US ISP's, if you have a 100/100 in Sweden then you pay around 299SEK and that's about 39$ plus a 50$ fee if you want to have access to public services the legit way.

My internet is pure shit, my download speed is literally .25 mb/s. Let's take a moment for me.

How are you connected? Are you tethering from your phone? If not then you may have wrong settings on your modem/router.

Nope. My house is the only neighborhood with this problem, seems to be some wiring issue.

Indeed, though this isn't really anything new, because I remember catching an online article a year or two back stating that most Americans don't give a sh!t about Internet. At least parts of Europe have their stuff together when it comes to digital communications and what-not.

It's true the U.S. has lagged a lot behind other countries in terms of broadband, but it's not just a monopoly issue. It's also because there is more population sprawl in the United States.

Compared to places like Asia in particular, our population is very spread out. So setting up high speed infrastructure is damned expensive due to the sheer distances involved alone. Essentially the same reason we have less mass transit than Asia / Europe as well.

To be honest, I miss my old ISP. Was about half what I'm paying now and a gigabit connection rather than 125. Bloody Comcast is borderline robbery, but anything is better than the other ISP where I moved to.

Keep in mind that they have already claimed government subsidies for years that was supposed to go toward nationwide fiber... they started this back in 1995 and still haven't made good on their promise. It is well beyond when they said it would be done by, they have been pocketing the money instead of upgrading.

it's amazing how the us was one of the big players to help invent the internet yet we have one of the worst speeds and we pay more....
