I cannot pick just one arc from my favorite shonen anime (sorry magi, you are pretty high up there at second place T_T), so I'm just gonna go ahead and copy a couple other people and put my top five, as well as explain why I think so highly of them compared to the rest of One Piece (pretty much most of it is excellent IMO), however since I have also read the One Piece Manga, this is my top 5 One Piece ANIME top 5 list as there are some arcs I enjoyed in the manga that I did not appreciate as much in the anime. So here we go :D

Honorable Mentions:

Jaya - I really loved this arc because of the time it took to build the world of One Piece and introduce more awesome/godly characters like Doflamingo/Black Beard(who we still know nothing about, but we will get there someday guys!!!) I know a lot of people did not like the pacing of this arc, however I really liked it slow paced nature, it was a really calm/chill arc and I once again really enjoyed it. Also the Zoro/Luffy bar scene was awesome.

Skypiea - Once again, loved the world building and the lore introduced in this arc, the fights (for the most part) were well paced and I felt this was close to the point where the crew felt like a family and real nakama. Also the Going Merry really started to show the damage it had taken after all the Straw Hats adventures.

Okay, now for the real Top 5.

5. Arlong Park - This arc (along with the Baratie Arc) was when I really got hooked to One Piece. It got me really thinking about the characters and the potential they had to grow in this series. Realizing they weren't going to be sidelined (like so many other Shonen characters ) and they were going to be a real team, or in this case a real crew. Also I really liked the side characters in this arc (Nojiko [Nami's Sister], and Pinwheel Man)

4. Sabody Archipelago- Sabody Archipelago, is one of the arcs I am very glad I was not watching weekly because seriously... that cliffhanger. The for-shadow of what the New World would have to offer was really cool and just made it so much more exciting when the crew finally did go to New World. The Introduction of Admiral Kizaru (the biggest troll in One Piece... and my favorite admiral). The Luffy/Law/Kid team up, even though it wasn't against a very strong opponent, was really awesome. Then of course the climax of the arc when the crew was fighting Kuma. This arc was just really thrilling over all and I really enjoyed it.

3. Water 7/Enies Lobby- I Finally getting to find out who this mysterious Robin, who had been with the crew for so long now really was. Getting to know Robin's pretty dark past made her flashback story so interesting. Also of course all the great fight scenes in this arc (also when the anime started over-using Luffy's Gear 3rd...). Of course all the crew received an extreme "power up" and in the end grew closer together. Overall undeniably one of the best One Piece arcs.

2. Impel Down & Marineford - I put these two together because I really liked them both and there is not much separating them. Wow... this arc was so action-packed and brought so many awesome characters into one battlefield. Honestly as I was watching before I watched this arc I didn't expect there to actually be an event this big until new world, but I'm glad I was wrong. This arc was so well placed in the story, I mean like right after the Straw Hat's separation (of course after the events of Impel Down) Luffy get's caught up in this huge battle to save his brother and in the end, ultimately failing to do so which actually quite surprised me since considering Luffy had never lost anyone before (besides during Sabody Archipelago of course, however he gets the crew back together later so I'm not counting that ). Now I thought the whole idea the anime spending so much time on just saving his brother was ridiculous especially because we only had like 3-4 episodes with Ace previously, but this arc really made me love Ace for some reason I cannot explain, and I even shed a couple tears during his death scene.

1. Alabasta So, Alabasta was the first One Piece Saga that really felt connected, all the previous arcs (after the Straw Hats reached Grand Line) all led up to this one big event. This arc introduced so many of my favorite characters, and also had a lot of character depth and mystery to it. Firstly, the Shichibukai that had been previously teased in many One Piece episodes before, we were finally going to get to see the Straw Hats fight one of them, that Shichibukai being one of my personal favorites Crocodile. Crocodile was a formidable opponent for Luffy making him actually have to think how to defeat him instead of using pure strength also having multiple fights with Luffy. This arc also introduce The Mysterious Robin, one of my favorite Straw Hat's, (that's right I said it, I liked her before she was heavy fan-service ). Mr.2 or Bon Clay as he is better known as, this guy is just awesome lol, nuff' said. Finally, my favorite character of this arc, Vivi. Vivi is introduced to us as a teenage girl with a lot of burdens she is working to overcome (saving her kingdom), and a lot of problems she is trying to solve and is actually working and trying to fix them. After the battle when she has to choose whether she wants to deal with her responsibilities and stay in Alabasta becoming the queen, or if she want's to go off in the world with her friends on the ultimate adventure, she makes the very hard decision of not leaving with the Straw Hats. I mean seriously picking your responsibilities over your friends is a [REALLY hard thing to do, thus making her one of the most heroic characters of the series (in my opinion of course ). But for the arc overall, the tension building up for the 40 episodes it was, was done so well and made the climax all the more worth it.

That was a really long post, but I just like talking about One Piece XD

Alabasta and it's better than Dressrosa, which is a copycat arc in my opinion.

I guess the whole Water 7/Ennie's Lobby arc would be the best for me because it meant the most to the characters. It has some of my favorite moments in One Piece from the duel between Luffy and Usopp, Robin leaving the crew to protect them from the world government and Luffy having the flag burned effectively declaring war and making them an enemy of the world along with Robin. Making them equals means Robin doesn't have to leave to protect them. It also shows how far Luffy will go for a crew member and how much he cares for them. That final moment after the battle where he calls out to Robin is possibly my all time favorite One Piece moment.

Marineford was epic in scale and included so many characters so i enjoyed that one and some of the newer arcs like Punk Hazard and Dressrosa have been much darker in tone showing all the evil that is happening in the world. It feels like it's all building up to something big.

I know exactly how you feel, One Piece is by far one of the best anime's out there, I know some people tell me they think its terrible but I know for a fact they probably didnt even give it good go at it, because there is a shit ton of episodes, yes the VERY beginning was a bit slow but it was fantastic once you really get into it. LOL I wasted like 2 summers in public school trying to watching the whole series and have been hooked on it since the 7th grade xD Zoro is by far an amazing character he is my #1 favourite, his loyalty to Luffy is just incredible and that is why he is his 1rst mate :) Overall so far the whole strawhat crew is pretty amazing, their bonds are just beautiful. Especially the Enies Lobby ending where Usopp and Luffy have their heartfelt reunion, like of course Usopp wasnt going to remain separate away from the crew, their family, plus the show wouldnt be as funny without our top funny man of the show - Captaaain Usopp >< I balled my freakon eyes out when Ace died, I was like NOOOO he wasnt even in the anime long enough, I cried for like 20mins after the episode was done not even joking lol :S Plus the epic pirate soundtrack when Shanks arrives is just golden, ugggh Shanks badassery at its finest XD And yes the Alabasta Arc was incredible, I loved the whole story it was awesome and just fantastic Crocodile is my fav although he may have been a total ASSHOLE , I still loved his character, his my fav asshole in the series haha >< I cannot wait for the next episode to come out, hate having to wait a week but hey that just means I can rewatch any arc or episode as there is a huge selection to choose from and that is why One Piece is FUCKING BRILLIANT :D

I know EVERYONE loves this one, but for me it's gotta be Enies Lobby/Water 7. The arc started off pretty slowly, but I had no problem with that. It felt nice to just relax for a few episodes. But then Robin left, and I feel like that's what started the actual plot of the arc. Then we finally got to hear about Robin's back story, and hearing about it just made Robin my absolute favorite character. Along with her personality being awesome! My third favorite has got to be Marineford, because sooo many feels came along with Ace dying, and Luffy having to deal with it. This was probably the first arc, in my opinion, that actually showed any character development in Luffy. And then my third favorite is Alabasta because I started this arc during the first summer I'd gotten into anime, so it has a lot of good memories attached to it. Also, Crocodile is my favorite One Piece villain. He's just such a boss, and... I dunno, I just find him really awesome. Lol, no one's gonna read this whole entire thing. Sorry for the long post!

Haha im a bit late but i read it and i agree with you! The current Dressrosa arc is insanely good too so far

To me Cocoyashi Village was the first arc that made me cry, Ennies Lobby was the most epic because every Straw Hat member showed a new technique, and Thriller Bark was the funniest because the Straw Hats' 3 stooges (Nami, Usopp & Chopper) were always scared s*!tless. So it's hard to say which one of those arcs is my favorite.

I loved the Enies Lobby Arc, Straw hat pirates declaring war to the world and Luffy's battle with Rob Lucci was pretty good, maybe next to Luffy and Doflamingo battle in Dressrosa

1. Marineford
Hands down the most epic part of One Piece, hard not to love it.

2. Sabody Archipelago

Seeing the Straw Hats get a taste of how weak they really were was a nice change.

3. Amazon Lily

Probably Water 7 for the sole reason that it's like the only arc where the Strawhats aren't completely buddy buddy.

They argue, they have different opinions, they debate. It's just something we don't really see in any meaningful way in any other arcs.
