This is too much for me take in right now... I can't believe he's gone. And I was really looking forward to meeting him one day...

Rest in peace, Monty. No matter how hard the times seem right now, we will never forget you. Your spirit endures through RWBY and through all of your fans.

Farewell...

Yeah I saw this at work. This is terrible. He was really amazing. I hope RT continues RWBY, though it'll probably be pretty hard to go on without him. Ah well....RIP Monty.

I'm shocked.
I didn't even hear about him in the hospital until it was too late.
Wow. Just wow. This was something I never expected to happen.
We'll miss you Monty. Thank you for RWBY, it's amazing and I've been watching it since the beginning.

I was hoping it wouldn't come to this but sadly it has. So many people were inspired by him. I only came to the attention of RWBY a couple months ago so I can't say he impacted me the same way as others but the understanding of why is there. RIP to him and condolences to the family.

My sincere condolences go to Monty's friends, family, and fans across the world.

The only question I have left in this regard . . . who's going to be the new voice for Ren?

RIP Monty Oum!!!

Monty Oum was a director, writer, and THE animator of the series. Before asking who's going to voice Ren, the question is, will RWBY even continue? It was his story.

Monty was literally an inspiration. He dropped out of high school and followed his passion, and in the end he fulfilled his wish to create an original series.

Until now, I did not know that Monty Oum had little to no formal education in computer art and animation, or even how much of RWBY was drawn exclusively from his own individual hard work and passion.

And yet there are some people who've lambasted RWBY for its alleged flaws and shortcomings without realizing that RWBY was not a multi-million dollar production made by a large group of highly-skilled, highly-paid individuals (e.g. not Rooster Teeth), but one man with a dream, a modest budget, and countless friends & fans (Rooster Teeth & co.) who've supported his ambitions every step of the way.

These assholes have the rest of their lives left ahead of them, but even if they had the time, money, and resources to make something on the same caliber as RWBY, they will wind up expending only a mere fraction of the raw talent, passion, and dedication Monty Oum has exhibited in just 33 years living on this earth. Fuck the haters!!!

Thanks Monty for everything you have done and more!

There's a podcast going on right now live on the RT site where Burnie, Matt, Gus, and Gray talk about Monty and their experiences hanging out with him

Very unfortunate news.

Given RWBY's popularity, I can see RT at least attempting to carry on with the series. It probably all depends on if they think it is still bankable.
