Same, but I do have some anime shirts I like to wear out in public. xP And my room has posters and manga all over the place. Along with my 'special drawer' full of anime. Like 50% one piece. xD

If someone asks me my interests, I dont hide it anymore. I used to since people can be pretty mainstream and judgmental about anime. But i'd rather have friends/lovers that can accept me for what i am instead of what they think i am.

I used to, but as you get older you begin to realize that no one really cares. I will openly admit to watching anime and if someone decides to think any less of me for it, oh well. I would rather be watching Psycho-Pass, Dantalian no Shoka, or Kara No Kyoukai over CSI: Season 20, NCIS: Manchester Avenue, or any other run-of-the-mill American Television show that some schmuck behind a desk (at a big shot news network that uses Wikipedia as a source) called 'Revolutionary.'

Do you keep your interest in anime a secret?

Such as, in public. You may be talking to a girl, or a group of "buddies" you're trying to fit in with. You know for a fact they don't watch or have any idea what anime is. Therefore, some of society thinks anime is for... "the childish" from what I've been around. To some it's unattractive and confusing. I treat some anime close to my heart. Why you ask? It's an outlet of stress-relief, but many won't understand.

I don't tell too many people I'm somewhat of an avid anime viewer. I don't tell people I watch SaO or Eureka Seven for example, because they'd have no clue, 'nor do I introduce them too it.

What's your take? Do you keep it a secret among yourself and among other anime lovers?

I think the answer for this question varies on how much an individual likes anime. I plan on being a writer, likely for animation, and love anime; I'm also not only the President of my school's Anime Club, but I founded the club, so anime matters to me a lot. Within all of my years of openly expressing my love for anime, I've come to learn that hiding an interest in anime really only hurts people's opportunities if anime matters to them because (as this question explicitly states) people tend to keep their love for anime a secret, meaning that meeting people who like anime without either party being moderately expressive about it is nearly impossible. By creating an environment where people have the opportunity to talk about anime, whether just with me or in my club, I can and have met people who love anime that I never would have guessed liked it and form all kinds of friendships from talking openly about it or wearing anime shirts or going to cons or doing other things.

However, if anime isn't that prominent in somebody's life and it's merely a past time or they have a passion for something else that they really want to be known for, then they should talk about anime with those who are closest to them and like the medium or even over the internet like here on CR, if they still want to talk about anime with somebody.

Ultimately, it comes down to a person's passion and willingness; for me, I'm an extreme example of expressing my love for anime since I'm a writer heading towards a profession in animation, but for others, they can be open, but more moderate about liking anime.

I don't really advertise to others that I watch anime but if the topic comes up in the group discussion then yeah i will talk about it. Kind of ironic that i have an Akatsuki cloud decal on my Car

I wouldn't wear my anime shirts in public because uhhhhh what would YOU think of some middle-aged dude walking down a regular street in an anime shirt?? (conventions excluded)

I don't try to 'fit in' with people. Mostly my group of friends is determined if they also have some sort of similar hobby to me, whether that be anime or gaming or collecting figurines or whatever. Everyone around me tends to know that I like anime a lot because it'll come up in conversation if people ask me what I'm watching, or when I meet new people and I'm trying to find a common interest we'll go back and forth on the stuff we like. It's not to say I don't have any friends that don't have similar hobbies, but they all at least respect what I'm into and don't make cracks against it. But my closest friends tend to be either into figures/anime or into gaming. It's difficult to be a good friend of mine without one of those things because I don't really get into much else so there's not much else to talk about. Unless it's reading sci-fi or fantasy novels... and I'll tell you right away that less people around here are into reading stuff like that than are into anime.

Don't bring it up, especially to someone you do not know that well, if they ask, downplay it. Being a fan of anime has never got anyone laid outside of comicon

I wouldn't say I keep it a secret, I just don't talk about it unless the topic is brought up. Unless it's something I find interesting or worth sharing.

Nope. If anyone I meet is curious about my interests I will tell them of my anime and cosplay interests. It's actually a good way of scouting for potential friends. XD And if they don't know what anime is, so what? I just give them a brief explanation and continue with the conversation.
